Here's something I forgot to post a while ago. I wanted to do "zombie guts" for Halloween, but I didn't have a zombie party to go to, so I saved this project for a party about a month ago. Great Stuff expanding foam is called that for a reason. It's great stuff. Makes nice bloated guts (which I've done a couple times, man, I gotta find pics of the haunt in 2004), and organic "pod people" vegetation (which I've also done a few times). Coats nicely with spraypaint, and you can get a project done with it in a day or less. No tutorial here because it's fairly straight-forward. Take a t-shirt or nylon body suit or whatever you want to wear with the foam on it, and.....coat it with foam. That's about it. The stuff expands over time 2-3 times the size of when it comes out of the can, so you can draw your guts with room to grow and let them bloat up.
Yeah so it's not anatomically correct, I forgot how much they expand and tried to fill in where there were gaps. Whatever. it's zombie guts with wiggly rodents in them now. Paint was a flat black base coat, followed by gloss red, followed by a dusting of yellow from the top down, followed by a flourescent flat green dusted from the top down. Start with the darkest color, it really helps to add depth. For the back, I decided I needed some more "gamma irradiated cancerous polyp patches":
I need to take a few more pics of this for you, one of the blue shirt without the green one over and a better one of it with the green shirt over it. They're about 2-3 inches thick and really add some depth and dimension to the costume. The paint was just gloss green with a dusting of yellow for highlighting. I needed a big ol' cancerhead too, but that ended up looking more organic/vegetative than cancerous:

Didn't quite turn out how I wanted but it's still cool as fuck, especially if I ever make a "Vegetable Man" costume. Started with a base coat of gloss purple, then gloss green, and then a dusting of gloss yellow, and hit a couple spots directly with the flourescent green. I wish I hadn't covered up so much of the purple with the green because it's such an awesome contrast. There's a couple pics on Facebook of me wearing this if you have Facebook...
OTHER COSPLAY PROJECTS
Here's what I'm working on until Acen, not in any particular order, other people's work takes priority over my own shit:
Armor plate setup for Crizl done
-----shit for other people-----
Wild Arms Shotgun
Wild Arms Sword
Rickenbacker Bass
Yoko's Gun
(2) Vacuform table and heating element table (because I can)
Nami's Logpose
Nami's staff
Chrno Crusade Gun
Chrno Crusade necklace
Chrno Crusade costume shoulder crosses
----------------------------------------
---Shit for myself/sales&production-------
Ceruberos Guns
---Devil May Cry-------
Ebony & Ivory
Luce & Ombra
Blue Rose
Red Queen
Rebellion
Nero's Devil Bringer Arm
-----------------
Yeah, and that's not even a list of stuff I want to do, just things I'd like to get done before mid-may. I know a guy who wanted a vacuformed M 1 Garand carbine rifle wii controller for Call O'Duty 4, which I can do in a couple weeks, but i"m holding off until after Acen. www.cushmanpaintball.com has the shell already and oh my god, the things I can do with those shells they have! In a paycheck or two, I'll get distracted from the list and buy a fiberglass gel spray gun ($125) and start experimenting with gel-coat shells and expanding foam.
Criz'ls (
livingdeadcrizl) cyber-wear armor plates are taking me FOR FUCKING EVER to cut out, so I'm sending her enough to get her and Jer started, and some tools. I don't know if it's enough because she hasn't responded to any of my phone calls or e-mails for like a week now >:O
What's going in the box:
So have fun with that, let me know what else you need and get Jer started on cutting more rectangles.
This weekend's going to be BUSY! Figured out how to make Nami's Logpose, but it'll require some plaster molds and a ghetto rigged 4" square thermal formed plastic job :p I got my NiChrome wire coil in the mail last night, so I'll probably start wiring up the heating element portion of the vacuforming table. Got a funtastic party to go to sat/sun, and I'm planning on finishing the Wild Arms shotgun (at least everything but the paintjob) and look at what my new friends at TK-560 gave me!
