Glad you asked. For one thing, this story starts with me copping to reading an article on geology for recreation...
On seeing the following sentence "The deepest hole drilled to date is the SG-3 borehole which is 12.3 km (7.6 mi)[6] deep, part of the Kola Superdeep Borehole project" (before I'd actually processed all the words and put them together in the right order), my first thought was "Why are we sending the Marines to Russia?" (like i actually have friends who don't know this but, just in case, it's a Stargate reference)
