“I counted at least twenty of them,” Kierra announced as the four of them scrambled under-cover. “Black Hand Guild; I saw a tattoo on their leader.”
“Armed with your sister’s repeating crossbows,” Sam noted, with a soft sigh.
“Oh, believe you me, I’ll be having words with her about that fact,” she sighed.
“Can you neutralize them?” Wade demanded of her partner, ignoring the others.
“Mind if I shatter every window in a three-block radius?” Nettles answered, snarling when a crossbow bolt hit the ground next to him.
Wade gave him a look that quite clearly said I beg your everloving pardon, you lunatic?, glancing at the other two City Watchmen currently pinned down with them.
“Ideas?”
“Kill them all slowly?” Kierra offered, popping around their makeshift barricade with a war-cry and firing off several arrows. “That the best you got, you hairy apes?!?!” she taunted as she dove back to safety.
“Hey!” Sam protested, glaring. “Humans over here!” he pointed out, pointing to himself, Wade, and Nettles.
“You’re all forgiven for the fact that your mothers lacked good taste in breeding-partners,” the elf answered, eyes laughing at her partner.
“I could drop a building on them,” Nettles mused, eying the skyline.
“Don’t you dare!” Wade hissed, smacking him hard on the back of the head.
She’d known there was a reason why the Watch was leery of hiring ex-soldiers...
