www.brainygamer.com/the_brainy_gamer/2010/08/portal-booklist.html A college in Indiana now requires its students to play "Portal" as a requirement for some sections of one of its mandatory courses (the course is called "Enduring Questions" and "Portal" is part of the module on issues of perception -- once they iron out the technical and logistical kinks, they plan on introducing it to all sections of the class). The part of me that wants to head!desk is warring with the part of me that points out I had to play "Oregon Trail" during elementary school Social Studies (or was it History? meh, same difference back then).
On balance, I think it would bother me a lot less if it weren't a mandatory class for incoming freshmen. The other readings mentioned in news stories on this are fairly weighty and significant stuff and Wabash is NOT a joke of a school. It's on the Forbes and US News and World Reports lists for best schools in the country and listed as one of the Colleges That Change Lives (hell, what guy's life wouldn't be changed by four years separated from girls? makes me wonder who they're oggling in class and the cynical part of me thinks they might benefit a little more from a play-through of "Tomb Raider").
So, ladies and gents, here we have it: the shape of the future. Finally there will be non-geeks out there who understand about the damned cake.
Okay, update-y stuff.
Sorry I've been so not around lately. Arthritis owwies and assorted other RL things. All is well here, i just haven't been up to LJing (which is making trying to get back into the RP swing of things a royal pain in the arse and again has me contemplating dropping since things seem to be going well without Will and I anyway). Again, I'm ridiculously behind on LJ notifications *le sigh* but I'll get to them eventually.
I'm house/animal-sitting at the farm from today until Thursday or Friday (without a cell phone since mine is now in Germany, joy) so may continue to not be around much depending on how their internet is working. Per Heather, my mission, should I chose to accept it (her words) is to burn 500 calories a day on the Wii, which she informs me can be done without using my wrists much. My secondary mission is to achieve mastery of invisible hula-hooping (my hips and knees are not looking forward to this but something tells me it'll be fun anyway, lol).
I think I'm going to bring my bins of beading supplies over (2 24 liter ones plus a few bags of more recently-acquired swag) and sort and inventory them there, where there isn't a cat who thinks it was a ferret in a past life trying to "help". I'm going to invest in a bead spinner soon, so I can work with seed beads more easily; I really want to start selling on Etsy soon so being able to do seed beads faster and with less pain is a good thing. Heather's getting into beads, too, lol (weaving and sewing of seed beads). Eric just laughs at her but I'd like to see HIM try to make a rope of seed beads ;p I got a new camera with an amazon gift card i had, so hopefully that'll capture the colors of my jewelry better which should help with selling them. Also, mood beads are love (expensive love, but I still adore them). I'm finally starting to branch out into more complex stuff than single-strand bracelets, too. Which could be part of the reason my hands are acting up :D
AND HEATHER LIKED HER BIRTHDAY PRESENTS!!! *dances*
Unpacking's being obnoxious. I keep deciding I don't like things where they are and putting them back into boxes *thinks she may be going about this wrong* Whatever, though. I am slowly but surely making progress and think I'm going to end up donating half my nick-knacks to Goodwill for no other reason than because they're obnoxious to dust.
Spider is finally starting to learn to retract her claws, bless her little soul, but she still insists on tearing ass through the house in the dead of night (eleven to one followed by a nap then from three until five or so are her peak hours) and sounding like a herd of rhinos stampeding while she's doing it. How a cat that tiny can be that loud when running and bouncing is beyond me. I'm honestly surprised the neighbors haven't complained yet and can only assume they're heavy sleepers (or that these apartments have thick walls, since I only hear a peep out of either of them when the windows are open).
Okay, that's all the news from Lake Woebegone, so bye for now *hugs everyone*
