"It's a pity, really. You used a number of good sources and would have written an excellent paper but you didn't... No wonder your examination of the subject was superficial and showed signs of haste."

that was my prof's comment on the essay that i did on napoleon's cult of personality for my history of propaganda class. i wish i spent more time ( Read more... )

i edited it. he only said the stuff in italics:
"It's a pity, really. You used a number of good sources and would have written an excellent paper but you didn't... No wonder your examination of the subject was superficial and showed signs of haste."

and yeah he's straight up. but i don't think he was mocking or anything like that.. i think he's just disappointed in me. i am disappointed in me too.

i think its more of a time management issue rather than a learning deficiency. i wrote the essay last minute that's why i got a bad mark. but this is definitely a learning experience.

i knew either you or your sister knew shit about napoleon. damn, next time i'll ask. but i doubt there will be a next time. history + me --> really not meant for each other

and i agree, louix xiv was better. but the topic wanted us to explore napoleon. hmph

The comment stings but it's also complimentary. The prof knows you have the smarts and the ability to acquire resources to go from good to excellent, which is a lot better than the prof coming to the conclusion that you've reached the limit of your abilities.

I love-hate it when I get called on my bullshit. This reminds of me my Law midterm. My professor's observation was, roughly: "You puzzle me, Miss V----------. This is a highly unbalanced effort. Some responses only cover the basics but some demonstrate astuteness and comprehension, indicating to me that you are capable of far more than this. I suggest you see me." I never did.
