“But what does a Player even do?” Henry asked.
“The Player plays,” Sangita declared, as he spun around the room making wild movements with his hands.
“I know that,” Henry sighed. Getting information from him was harder than trying to read the strange books that were written in music. “But what does my playing do?”
“See this glass,” Sangita held up a glass half full of water. He hadn’t had it a moment ago and Henry had no idea where he had been keeping it, by this point in his training he knew better then to ask. “It is filled with salt water. Here drink it,” he held the glass forward and Henry reached for it. A moment later, Sangita snatched it backward again, sloshing some of the water out of the cup.
“You can’t. It would make you very very sick. But if I do this,” Sangita held up a small water purifier that had obviously come from Earth. He poured the salt water into it and displayed it proudly as the water began to drip through the purification system. “Then you can drink it at the end.”
“I don’t-”
“No important,” Sangita declared, putting the whole thing aside and pushing Henry’s hands that still gripped his violin up. “Play, Player. That is what a Player does, plays.”

Henry sighed and rubbed his temples. It had been weeks since his cryptic training with Sangita had stopped and he still didn’t understand what his role in the group was any better. Being back on Earth certainly wasn’t helping at all. It was difficult to ponder his role in things when so much was being demanded of him.
“Hey,” he was nudged from behind. “Don’t hurt yourself or anything.”
The voice sounded familiar and Henry turned and found the members of SHINee standing behind him. He blinked in confusion. “I wasn’t.”
Minho smiled. “What are you thinking so hard about?”
Henry glanced around the dressing room and noted that it was only people who knew about them, before he answered. “About being a Player. You seem to know a lot about this Ensouled thing. What do you know about Players?”
“A little bit. What do you want to know?” Minho asked settling onto the couch beside Henry as the rest of his members moved off to get ready.
“Sangita, that’s my teacher, he never could explain why it was so important that I play. I mean I have acted as a hub of sorts for our team, but couldn’t they just all share power without me? It doesn’t make any sense.”
“Do you remember the frequency thing I told you all about? How there is a frequency for each element?” Minho waited for a nod before continuing. “Well the frequency of the Weaver and Singer have to match or it won’t work. What you do is take the Song and through playing it, exchange the elemental frequency for a universal one that all the Weavers can use. This way the power can be shared as need.”
“Oh,” Henry nodded. “That makes sense. Couldn’t Yesung do that, since he can see and manipulate Songs?”
Minho shrugged. “Possibly, but you do it without even thinking. It isn’t even hard for you. Don’t think that is all you do.”
“Then what else can I do?” Henry asked excitedly.
Minho shrugged. “I’m not sure exactly.” Onew called his name and Minho stood, leaving a slightly dejected Henry sitting on the couch. When he was half way across the room he stopped and looked back over his shoulder. “Oh yeah. I know what you can do.”
“What?” Henry asked excitedly.
A mischievous smile fitted itself to Minho’s face. “You can play, Player.”
