Of Santa Claus
“What,” Hoya asked trying to keep the irritation from his voice, “are you doing?”
At the kitchen table Dongwoo paused and turned to look at him. “I’m writing a letter to Santa.”
Of all the answers that he had been expecting, that hadn’t been one of them. It wasn’t as though Dongwoo was a child, but had learned years ago that Santa Claus was hardly real, it was simply something made up to fascinate little children and rope them into being good as the holidays approached. “Santa isn’t real,” he said firmly.
Carefully Dongwoo set the pen down so he could turn his full attention on his mate. “Santa isn’t real?” he asked patiently. “Are werewolves real?”
“Yes,” Hoya said eyes narrowing. Where was his mate going with this?
“Are vampires real?”
“Yes.”
“Are witches real?”
“Yes.”
“Are Fae real?”
“Yes.”
“Are fairies real?”
Rare but the answer was still, “Yes.”
“Are goblins real?”
“Yes.”
“Are elves real?”
Hoya was beginning to see where this was going but he had to answer with the truth, “Yes.”
“Then why,” Dongwoo said his eyes brightening, “if all that is real, can’t Santa be real?” He didn’t wait for Hoya to answer him before he turned around and picked up his pen again. It was just as well because Hoya found he couldn’t come up with any sort of answer to that question. One more thing in the long list of items that his mate, for better or worse, had made him question about himself.
There wasn’t a thing he could do about the questions within him, but he knew what would make the other wolf happy and that was the sole thing he lived for now. “Do you have some more paper?” he asked, sliding into another chair at the table. Beaming at him with happiness bubbling through their bond, Dongwoo happily handed over another set of stationary.
