1. Love Shack - B-52's
2. Funky Cold Medina - Tone Loc
3. Bust A Move - Young MC
4. Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
5. Like A Prayer - Madonna
6. Joy and Pain - Rob Base & D.J. E-Z Rock (didn't like the tune so much, but reminds me of when Arnie Becker [L.A. Law character] was dating a Laker Girl [played by Courtney Thorne-Smith], and the Laker Girls were rehersing to the song)
7. Put A Little Love In Your Heart - Annie Lennox and Al Green
8. All I Want Is You - U2 (although I didn't really become familiar with the song until about five years later when it was featured in Reality Bites)
9. Patience - Guns N Roses
10. The Best - Tina Turner (not Tina's best work, ironically, but even some of Tina's less-good work blows other artists away)
11. Paradise City - Guns N Roses
12. Keep On Movin' - Soul II Soul
13. Wild Thing - Tone Loc
14. Every Little Step - Bobby Brown (before he was Mr. Whitney Houston, but instead was the reason New Edition split)
15. I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi (when Bon Jovi went whiny and emo, they lost me)
16. Another Day In Paradise - Phil Collins
17. Love In An Elevator - Aerosmith
18. Kiss - Art of Noise featuring Tom Jones (mentioned this cover in #otenba the other night, yo!)
19. She Drives Me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals
20. Lay Your Hands On Me - Bon Jovi
21. Don't Know Much - Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville (this is very close to getting a strike...romantic sappy drivel...but it's Ronstadt)
22. Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson (the song that launched the album that launched the movie that launched one of the all-time worst console video games)
23. After All - Cher and Peter Cetera (Cetera was only less credible away from Chicago when he pulled that duet with Crystal Bernard)
24. Express Yourself - Madonna (Madonna's last good song for a while, if not to date)
25. Eternal Flame - the Bangles (Susanna Hoffs...enough said)
26. Buffalo Stance - Nenah Cherry (because the skanky waitresses that I worked with at the Hut insisted on singing along with this song whenever it was played on the jukebox)
27. Love Song - the Cure (if it's going to be emo, it has to come from one of the Masters of Emo...Robert Smith is one of those Masters)
28. Angel of Harlem - U2 (did NOT like this tune at the time, but like so much of U2's music, it has grown on me over time)
29. So Alive - Love and Rockets (don't know what colour your eyes are baby...)
30. Back To Life - Soul II Soul
31. Listen To Her Heart - Roxette
32. Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) - Enya (another tune that's grown on me with time, but I hated it when I was a too-cool senior)
33. I Feel The Earth Move - Martika
34. Get On Your Feet - Gloria Estefan (this is one that I really liked at the time, but have grown to dislike more and more)
35. When I See You Smile - Bad English
36. Heaven Help Me - Deon Estus and George Micahel
37. Baby, Don't Forget My Number - Milli Vanilli (Milli fuckin' Vanilli? You've got to be kidding me.)
38. Dr. Feelgood - Motley Crew (Crue's most over-hyped, over-rated album)
39. Heaven - Warrant (great late 80s hair-metal power ballad, got a lot of airplay in my area because half of the band was from my neck of the woods, Janey being one of them)
40. She Wants To Dance With Me - Rick Astley
41. Walk The Dinosaur - Was (Not Was) (underrated group, but that's okay, because Don Was is taking potshots at current musicians on NPR now)
42. Once Bitten Twice Shy - Great White (before they had to resort to little shack clubs that couldn't take their pyro...but the video for "Rock Me" is their true classic)
43. Me, Myself and I - De la Soul
44. I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty (when this was getting too heavy in the rotation, I didn't care for it...but in small doses, it's fine)
45. On Our Own - Bobby Brown (less-than-memorable tune from an awful sequel's soundtrack)
46. A Little Respect - Erasure (Mmmm...Erasure...good Eurodance from the 80s)
47. Miss You Like Crazy - Natalie Cole
48. 18 and Life - Skid Row
49. You Got It (The Right Stuff) - New Kids On The Block (I'll cop to liking a few NKOTB tunes...this isn't one of them)
50. Me So Horny - 2 Live Crew (Luther and the Crew...they were great...)
51. Stand - R.E.M. (loved this at the time...seems a bit, I don't know, silly now)
52. Soldier Of Love - Donny Osmond (there are times when I really love this song, and times that I'm like "euw...Donny frickin' Osmond!", but it's on my HD, so I guess that says I don't hate it)
53. The Look - Roxette (burst on the US scene with a bang...)
54. Birthday Suit - Johnny Kemp
55. We Didn't Start the Fire - Billy Joel (neat at the time...a bit grating now...wonder what BJ would throw into the tune for the last 17 years?)
56. Hey Ladies - Beastie Boys (not one of their better efforts, but the best of "Licensed to Ill" hit the charts in '87)
57. The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics (radio cut wasn't as good as the album cut ["album cut"? How old am I?], and in the right mood I love this song)
58. Trouble Me - 10,000 Maniacs (Didn't really know much 10,000 Maniacs until a year or so later, when I'd hear this CD at keggers, but my college years expanded my musical tastes)
59. Don't Wanna To Lose You - Gloria Estefan
60. Closer To Fine - Indigo Girls
61. Forever Your Girl - Paula Abdul (after her Laker Girl days, but before her American Idol days, Paula had a brief career)
62. My Fantasy - Teddy Riley Featuring Guy
63. Blame It On The Rain - Milli Vanilli (no, blame it on the tape)
64. End Of The Line - Traveling Wilburys
65. Two Hearts - Phil Collins
66. Anchorage - Michelle Shocked
67. Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx
68. Mayor Of Simpleton - XTC
69. Straight Up - Paula Abdul
70. Pop Song 89 - R.E.M.
71. I'll Be Loving You (Forever) - New Kids On The Block (...but this is)
72. Now You're In Heaven - Julian Lennon
73. My Perogative - Bobby Brown (Probably my favourite Bobby song...and one that I would keep in mind when I felt I needed an extra jolt to my will)
74. Dear God - Midge Ure
75. Hangin' Tough - New Kids On The Block (definate not one...never will be, dear god...but still better than half the crap on pop stations today)
Yes...I was a hair-metal fan. But also a pop fan. And the "college" rock on this list is what I cut my teeth on when I got to uni. This may have been the first big year for rap, too. Sure, there may have been a few tunes in the years previous, but I'd say this is the year it really blew up.
