Graduation two weeks ago is in such hindsight I'll have to turn my head near all the way 'round to see it. The nights leading up to graduation were filled with hard work and hard panic. The days were filled with stiff blended margaritas with ice so coarse you chewed instead of drank.
Eventually, I graduated.
The ceremony was at the Children's Theatre and shared a stage with the set of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. We got to wear whatever we wanted. I was the last graduate to walk, and I don't even remember heading across that stage. It was a strange whirlwind of hugs and handshakes and directing me to the other side of the stage. I crawled over a whole row of people to sit back down.
Equally surreal was when I got called back onstage to accept the Van Derlip Award. $2,500 cash, money in the fuckin' bank. I guess all that work I did on my submission was worth it after all. Now all I need is a savings account so I don't spend it all on tequila and grass and new dresses.
When the formalities were finished, everyone drank and ate in the halls of MCAD. I scrambled up to my fourth floor and busted into Lester's office, Clayton in tow and searching for Zoe. We'd just missed her, but we didn't miss the bourbon. Drank a couple shots with Lester and KB and talked about the Future. Back then, it was so bright I couldn't be bothered to look at it. I thanked them both profusely for fuckin' everything and we slid back out into the hallway.
Ended up at the Yellow House, drinking memosas and lounging on the couch. Eventually, our posse hit the Red Dragon and Mortimers where I foosed for my life and considered the lucrative possibilities of a hot summer spent hustling.

So I've never rocked so hard in all my life. And I have this sinking suspicion that's it's gonna be a hard haul from here on out. Instead, I'm gonna think about cleaning my room and the sun and Rubber Soul, the Beatles cover band that will be unabashedly rocked to later tonight on the outskirts of Osseo.
