[Meme] 2012 In Review

Dec 31, 2012 20:08

Jumping on the end-of-the-year meme bandwagon. I'm not even sure if I've done this particular question set before.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Humour my mother by agreeing to a second blind date.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Resolutions were made to be forgotten. I can't even be half-assed to come up with reasonable ones.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nobody close.

5. What countries did you visit?
Hahahahaha.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A more stable fandom which I could actually draw/fic for. But I suppose having time to do either should be a prerequisite thing to have as well.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 15, 2012. Started clerking for the firm that offered me a post-graduation position.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a job offer and completely trouncing my classes while drowning on tumblr. Oh, and finishing a 13k word fic I started 3 years prior.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I wouldn't say it's a failure, necessarily, but my standards for men/complete lack of interest in dating is certainly driving my mother up the wall.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope. I am typically quite healthy. It's the rare year that I suffer any illness.

11. What were the best things you bought?
Clinique acne solutions. Skin is finally behaving.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Certain populations in certain states during this election campaign. :)

13. Whose behaviour appalled you?
Society on average appalls me on a daily basis. I can't and don't keep track anymore. It's just a steady state of being.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Paying half of my tuition out of pocket. Rent. Fucking law school, augh.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Rise of the Guardians (which I have yet to see); The Hobbit (which I have yet to see); Hansel and Gretel (which has yet to come out). It took me almost a year before I finally got around to seeing The Avengers in theatres okay. :\

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
I'm terrible at attributing any temporal meaning to songs. Or I could say Gangnam Style. Poor Psy. Give it a rest already, America.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Why can't "more content" be a choice?
ii. thinner or fatter? I feel as if I look the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer. That debt is still building and money continues to bleed from my account into a private academic institution.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise. I ran a fuck-ton during the last week, but that doesn't make up for the complete lack of exercise three months prior.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Work.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my family.

21. Where did you ring in 2012? How will you ring in 2013?
Just returned to Chicago today. Need to be in the office on January 2, so this'll be the first year in a while since I've not rung in the new year with my parents. /shrug

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Seeing as how I don't subscribe to the concept, I can't see how I could. But in terms of crushes or even just finding anybody attractive--no. It really does look like that I'm completely devoid of any feelings in those departments.

23. How many one-night stands?
I'm inclined to say that I'm 99% asexual. So, none.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Youtube clips of korean variety shows. Aww yeah.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I hate stupidity incarnates. That's a constant though. So, no, probably not.

26. What was the best book you read?
Haven't had the time to read for fun.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Lindsey Stirling's covers are great. The Piano Guys' covers are great. And Fujita Maiko has a beautifully clear voice.

28. What did you want and get?
Good grades and a post-grad job offer in a kickass firm that specialises in pharmaceutical patent litigation GET! (Now to just pass the bloody bar...)

29. What did you want and not get?
Scholarships so I can stop working myself to the bone. :\ To get the patent bar out of the way--started studying for it but then stopped early on because of major burn out.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
The Avengers. Loki was still a magical, heart breaking little shit and everybody else was A+.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I do not remember. The next one's coming up soon too. I'll be working on my birthday, that much I know. Fuck, I don't want to be 26. :(

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Slash fics for all the rare pairings that I inevitably seem to be drawn to, in obscure fandoms that nobody writes for.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Business casual. Hasn't changed in the last 2 years, really. Still predominantly monochromatic, clean/sleek cuts, with the occasional burgundies/darker solid colours. I suppose I've taken to wearing more accessories like scarves and statement necklaces though.

34. What kept you sane?
Tumblr. And weekly phonecalls with Inaho wherein we both vent about incompetent pissants we have to interact with on a regular basis.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Tom Hiddleston is a darling (though the receding hairline is unfortunate). JGL in a suit, always.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I actually voted this year. Asian voters, represent?

37. Who did you miss?
Everyone here, whether still present or long departed for other social media platforms. The effects of real life have been especially hard this year.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Eh. Most of the new people I met this year didn't really impress me much.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Here, have two:

1) Chicago is a city full of creepers.
2) Drinking while writing a paper does make the process less painful.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
You're kidding.

Still mired under work and unpleasant sources of stress, but I'm taking the evening off, dammit. Happy New Year everybody! ♥
