Concerts?

Nov 20, 2010 11:44

I just got tickets to My Chem's show on Friday, 22 April, and am so flipping excited! But... It's my first concert. Ever. So, what can I likely expect, what should I do beforehand, etc. etc.? Thanks!

And yes, I am going in costume. Code Violet is coming OUT!

real life, bandom, my chemical romance

I have no idea what to expect from a My Chem concert, being neither a fan (sorry!) or having any close friends who are fans, but I've been to enough concerts that I might be able to offer some pointers. I'm guessing it's standing/general admission? Do you want to be at the front? Are My Chem hardcore fans as batshit crazy violent as most fans? Do you have sensitive hearing?

And congrats on your first concert ever! It's addictive. Seriously.

Well... In an interview Frank said "We have the best kids ever, and if some other band thinks they have better fans than us... Well at least our kids can beat their kids up."... MCR fans are pretty tough shit.

Hee, I read your comment and it sounds pretty much like any other big GA show.

About 90% of the barrier at any show I've been to has been girls and older people and small people. I figure they're the ones who want to actually SEE the band and not get smushed in the process. Not saying that you won't get smushed, but at least you'll have something to hold on to.

And how early do their fans queue? I mean camping out early or mid-morning early, 'cause I know different groups of fans have different definitions of 'early'. I've never yet camped out for a band - I really don't think it's necessary - but I know to a lot of people 4am would almost be regarded as the same thing, haha.

It is basically just like any really big show. (Worst show I've been to was Silverstein, there was a fucking circle pit -.-')

That's exactly why those people are at the barrier!! You still get really squished, and some girls end up cracking ribs on the barrier, but sooooo worth it :P (*raises hand* I cracked a rib at the fall out boy show, not gonna lie.)

Ummm... Well, the earliest I've ever camped (we brought a Styrofoam cooler full of drinks and snacks) was about 8 hours before the set started... There were already about 15 people in line when we got there. The mcr show, the set starts at 8pm... The latest I want to be there is 2pm. I want barrier!!! *determined look* It's going to be pretty scary, but lucky for me being short with tons of concert experience, you can throw me into the middle of a circle pit and I'll still come out alive (bruised and a little broken, but still okay and ready for more!)

Awwww man I wish I could turn up 8 hours before! The only big bands I've seen that play that size of venue are Blur, Muse and Radiohead (people actually camped out for Muse, only time I've ever seen that happen in the UK) and I've been on the barrier for all of them. Radiohead was by far and away the most difficult: 4am queueing for a gig where the gates didn't even open til 4pm D: but they don't really attract violent crowds so it's not so bad.

I did go to one of the huge Blur reunion gigs in Hyde Park last year which was the scariest - it was the middle of a London heatwave, bottles flying everywhere, 55,000 people who all wanted to be at the front, and security guards standing on you to pull people out of the crush. yet again, not sure about moshing or circle pits, but it was so tightly packed I doubt there was room for it!

Wow, yea... American/Canadian kids are pretty rough, but generally speaking, we don't throw bottles. I'm pretty small so I can start at the back of the venue and by the time the headliner's on, I'm at the barrier :P

Is it just me, or does bottling seem like a non-NorthAmerican sort of thing to do... From what I've seen/heard, that is.

Heh, that's what I'm hoping for; 5'4", skinny, and aggressive, that's me! :)

It really is, more so it seems like a British thing to do. We love our bands, we don't bottle them. :P

Omg, that sound's a lot like me! Except you forgot "Has the passion/determination of a thousand burning suns! *epic angry stance with fist held high*"
