On catty Jon Walker, bitter Ryan Ross, and biased reporters (Oh, and a bit of Brendon and Spencer!)

Jun 28, 2010 16:42

In reference to the NEXT big bandom debacle (one that doesn't involve gratuitous and offensive triggers), the Young Veins Alternative Press magazine interview and subsequent Tweet by JWalk. Well, I've got my thoughts on it too, and here they are:

Jon: Okay, you were really rude. Even if it was the truth (which seems unlikely), and you were exercising your freedom of speech, the remarks you made were unnecessary and harsh.

The writing kept progressing, and we just felt like the other guys weren't really even trying to come along.

Oh. I get it. So you and Ryro were the only ones putting any effort in Pretty. Odd.? Good to know. Also, it's nice to hear that you think your ex-bandmates were such deadweights.

The last thing we wanted to do was to walk away [...] But we were kind of forced to.

No. No you weren't. If I recall correctly, every previous interview with everyone involved (not just you) said that it was by choice. Last time I checked, RYAN said it was by choice. So... where's the force?

[...] but I think their decision to continue Panic! At The Disco really goes hand in hand with their mentality and work ethic and their idea of actually being in a band. [...] Well, I'm saying they would rather play someone else's songs than try to write their own.

This is probably the worst comment. It's like, what, did you think Panic! At The Disco would suddenly stop playing Panic! At The Disco's songs? Now, think about that for a second. Panic! should stop playing Panic!'s songs JUST BECAUSE two members left. Oh, it doesn't matter that one of the ex-members didn't write the first album, or that neither of them wanted to play the songs they were leaving behind. OBVIOUSLY, the songs should disappear into the ether just because half the band left. Well, duh!

Regarding the AP interveiw: I regret being slanderous and disrespectful. They are creative guys and great musicians. Its time to move on..

Okay, it's passable that you misspelled "interview"; it's an honest typo. But the missing apostrophe in "it's"? Come on! If it was to save characters, then why did you add two periods at the end? Also, do you feel guilty and/or sorry for being slanderous and disrespectful, or do you regret it? Because if you regret it, I'm willing to bet that it's due to the bad press you're getting for it. Oh, and it's "time to move on"? Then try not discussing it in great and hateful detail in your next interview. Okay? Okay.

Ryan: You sounded really, really bitter. Like, watch-him-so-he-doesn't-kill-them bitter. I mean, just look.

Me and Jon wrote "Nine In the Afternoon".

Oh really. Did you? I thought that that song was written by everyone, by a remark SPENCER made. So either you lied then, when you were all getting along, or you're lying now, when you're clearly still upset and angry. Let's just mull those two options over for a bit...

I mean, if I were in school, I would have been in college. And that's when you're supposed to be figuring out what you're gonna do with yourself.

Is it just me, or does this sound kind of passive-aggressive? It's like, thanks to this band (that I'm not even IN anymore), I didn't get to go to college. So I'm gonna use THAT as an excuse for my mid-life crisis, 'kay guys?

We were the only ones writing material. Of the only ones bringing material to the band, and it's hard when those other guys aren't necessarily into the direction [...] And they didn't have anything.

So first you and Jon wrote "Nine", now you wrote the whole album? Yeah, "those other guys" would beg to differ. As would this and this.

I was shocked [at the continuation of the band]. I didn't think that that was gonna happen. Me and Jon were just under the assumption that we'd all start fresh. [...] Maybe in some way it was like they were hiding it from us. It was just like, "Wow, we're doing this new thing from the ground up and you guys are gonna go play the songs we wrote?"

Once again, I'm pretty sure YOU TWO didn't write ALL the songs. And yeah, when you leave a band, the band usually remains, so I'm not sure how you were confused on that; especially seeing how you idolize Blink-182... And hiding it from you? No, not really, it said so on their site. Maybe if you bothered to stay in communication with them (and this article proves you haven't) then you'd be aware of this. So stop with the resentment already.

Reporter: Look. It's been almost a year, if not more, since the split. We know that Panic! and The Young Veins were born out of a split. Pretty much all the fans do. So why do you need to keep bringing it up? It's pretty clear everyone's sick of it.

Ross admits he was shocked that Urie and Smith would choose to keep the brand alive without him. (And by "shocked", it would seem, he means "pissed".)

Look, yes, you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. That doesn't mean you need to print it. It comes across as immature and unprofessional.

Here, Ross and Walker [...] and how music may very well have been better before they were born.

If this was an insult, then it was poorly veiled and unnecessarily rude. If it was purely-intentioned, then SOMEONE needs a better copy editor.

Brendon and Spencer: Look, we know you guys are tired of talking about the split. But say SOMETHING. Please. Because we want the whole picture.

However, you've also been the most mature about this whole thing, as shown here and here. Good for you.
