Truths Be Told
He entered his quarters.
She was sitting at the table with a slew of reports spread out before her, twirling a strand of her hair.
It was a bad sign.
Her eyes followed him to the service cart.
“Can I get you anything?” He poured himself a drink.
She stopped with her hair, removed her glasses and looked at him.
“I take it that’s a no.” A hesitant smile crossed his face.
“Bill, we need to talk.”
No one ever needed to talk.
What she really meant was “I’m going to talk and you better listen.”
He took a seat on the couch and faced her. “Ellen.”
Laura froze. He said it before she could.
She knew he knew she knew the question was none of her business. He wasn’t sleeping with Ellen now. And his past was his past.
But his best friend’s wife was shameless. The stolen glances she fired his way, how she purred in his ear whenever she was close enough, the way she touched him. Ellen Tigh was all over him like a cheap suit every chance she got. Her behavior was abhorrent.
“Truth?”
“Yes.”
“I’ve never slept with Ellen.”
Laura smiled.
“Neither have I.”
