Saruyama! / Monkey High
by Shouko Akira
Haruna Aizawa thinks that school life is just like a monkey mountain--all the monkeys form cliques, get into fights, and get back together again. The school that she just transferred to is no exception. There's even a boy called Macharu Yamashita who reminds her of a baby monkey! (From Viz)
The art is quite pretty, the plot is nice enough - but what I loved the most were the characters and the way Haruno and Macharu's relationship developed at a pace that was both too slow and too fast but above all, natural. It was Epic and it felt like the way it happens in real life and I read the whole 31 chapters in one day because I couldn't stop reading once I started. Macharu "maturing" through the pages while still retaining his 'baby monkey'-ness (even with their intimacy issues and life's harships and it really doesn't seems as if he's maturing at all considering how he manages to go through it all) was both sweet and maddening, and I think now I'm fully certain that I have a weak spot for silly idiots guys like him.
I don't even remember how I found this, but I'm surprised it's not on OneManga, its Wikipedia entry is quite short and bleh, and there's not even a category on FanFiction.net for it. Which means not enough people are reading it.
So go read it.
