Birthday Stuff

Oct 14, 2011 09:03

My birthday dawned rainy, but since I had no concrete plans, that was okay. Tootled down to the Homestead for breakfast and some Ringing Rocks blend coffee. Sandy and Shelley stuck a candle in my scrambled eggs and sang happy birthday to me. =)

On a total fluke, my business mentor Jim Donovan was there and I told him about the videos and the podcasts and improvements to the website that Bob and I have been working on. He gave me an autographed copy of his book "52 Ways to a Happier Life" and gave us some good ideas on how to distribute our media and get more hits on the website. You know how I love talking about this stuff, so that was like a birthday present right there.

I may have sold a suit to Mike the coffeeroaster. He's got these extraordinarily long arms that don't fit in off-the-rack. And he saw our website and thought we sold a lot of neat stuff. If I remember correctly, his girlfriend is in fashion design so he was talking up some custom shirt patterns. =)

Spent some time with Mary and her daughter Jackie on the porch, chatting, which was fun. Then the rain let up so we tromped over to Aurora Springs Farm. This is the place that we visited a couple weeks ago -- the one with the 18th century farmhouse that was redesigned by Frank Lloyd Wright's student and has all those big windows facing south. Well, the realtor told us to come over anytime to hike down to the creek. So we dropped her an email to let her know we'd be there, put on our hunter orange and big boots, and trudged down to Cooks' Creek at the end of the property.

It wasn't a long trudge, but probably just all my healing toe could handle. We walked through a harvested field, but it was very muddy because the Creek flooded with all the recent innundations. The good thing was you could get through the brush without a clear path because the flooding had knocked it all down. The spot on the creek is dellightful -- like something out of a fairy story. Bob said the bend made it great for trout fishing. It sure was pretty.

The really interesting thing we saw was the frame of a car that had four completely different tires, one of which was completely smooth. Narrow width, so the car must have been from the 1930s. And it had a hefty tree growing up through it, so it had to have been sitting there for at least 50 or 60 years. I would have loved to have seen that car new.

Then, of course, we went to the lunch buffet at Nawab, my favourite place in the world. We got talking to Amy, the owner, as we usually do. She's the lovely lady who gave me a lehenga choli last Diwali. I told her I have an awesome lehenga to wear this year and Diwali is coming up (they celebrate on the Monday before Thanksgiving as a "going away" party for the college kids at Lehigh University, which is right up the block from the restaurant). Well, we got to talking and she invited us to her temple on Sunday. Turns out she goes to the Gurdwara Sahib Sikh Sadh Sangat near us in Easton, and I've always wanted to go there. It's a tennent of the Sikh religion to be open and accepting of other cultures and religions, so everyone is welcome at a Sikh temple. So we'll be going on Sunday and have a little snack and maybe listen to some drumming and socialize.

The rest of the afternoon, Bob and I did a lot of dreaming and planning for the future of the business. We have a lot of things we're working on that just need to get off the ground and a lot of things we're waiting to begin. It's very exciting.

Oh, and then I won the lottery!

Twice!

Seriously. I bought a Powerball ticket last week and it won $7. So I used some of the money and bought another Powerball ticket with it. This one won $13! So I used some of the money again and bought another Powerball ticket. It's up to $105 million. =)

This morning my sinuses are a little crazy but it looks like the sun may come out after all. But it's back to work for me!

birthday, rh, dream house
