Jake Shears cuts into closet cases

Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears has spoken about his band's success in the U.K. while criticizing closeted pop stars for not coming out.
The singer, who has seen his band top the charts, sell out venues across the country and receive nominations for this week's BRIT awards, says the level of their success is all the more important to the band because of their continuing cult status in the U.S.
However, he rejected the claims that no other bands are as gay as they are. "The only difference with us is that we have the balls to admit it," he told The Sun newspaper.
"There have been loads of gay bands in the U.S," he said. "Just because we're not closet cases like everyone else. If you want me to name names, I will. Robbie Williams is a gay man. Just look at him."
He says the U.K.'s reaction to their sexuality (three of the five band members are gay) has been refreshing.
"What I think is amazing in the U.K. is that no one cares whether we're gay, straight or whatever. People just seem to love the music."
The interview comes as the band prepares to appear at the BRIT awards tomorrow night, having been nominated for Best International Album, Group and Breakthrough Act.
It's not the first time Robbie has faced rumors about his sexuality: Former Take That band members have raised questions about his lothario image, and a man claiming to be a former lover sold his story to the tabloids.
