I listened to John Edwards'
speech (in full) from the California Democratic Convention today. I'd read all about it this weekend: DKos was on fire about it. He blew me away. I want to see him speak. Maybe this summer I'll get a chance.
Speaking of politics:
Mission Accomplished? Ignored the fact that the weather out was beautiful today. I feel ok about this because my DVD set of the BBC version of Planet Earth arrived. So far, I've watched six episodes of it, and have determined that David Attenborough's narration is far superior to Sigourney Weaver's. Right now, as I take yet another break from drafting my petition for a student designed Capstone, I'm watching the episode where the polar bear swims 60 miles to find food, attacks a phalanx of walruses, fails to score a kill, and then lays down on the rock to die, as the walruses return from their escape, sensing no lingering danger with the starved and dying polar bear.
Now it's penguin orphans freezing to death. Their little penguin eyes icing over, clouded with snow and frozen open.
Speaking of wildlife: Dad and Lynette have reported two sightings of a bald eagle on our property. Yesterday, Dad came back from a ride and just glanced to his left as he approached the driveway and right there was a fucking bald eagle, just hanging out on a tree, next to two crows. So we hope that two separate sightings mean that we have eagles nesting on our land. I also happen to think the symbolism is pretty heavy.
Speaking of wildlife: The school/department of architecture had a party at Decibel last night, which is an annual thing. It was a decent party, considering I didn't know anyone there. $1 pitchers and really bad music to dance by--it was like a wedding party with a covered bar. I asked Joey why he thought the English department didn't have parties like that. He said it was probably because English majors would just sit around, smoke cigarettes, and talk about politics. Almost none, he insisted, would dance. Maybe.
I'm in the mood for Mexican tonight. But we found a bag of frozen ravioli in the freezer, and we have a cup of pesto thawed, so we're going to throw that together right now.
