Here's a little number I tossed off recently.

I was sitting in a fast food restaurant with a glass of fast drink, waiting for my train and reading a slightly outdated (1 December) copy of The Independent which I had luckily left in my dorm room back when it was fresh. Otherwise I would have been entirely without non-academic reading material.

In the Life section of this fine, committed paper there was an article on AIDS and the most effective weapon against it yet - and it really is quite marvellous. It isn't a vaccine, it's a simple operation, the ole snip itself, circumcision. The Langerhans cells on the underside of the foreskin are ideal for the virus but if removed, the risk of infection is reduced by 60% which is astonishingly good, most importantly in Africa.
The point, however, is the following passage:
Kevin de Cock, head of the World Health Organisation's Aids department, described it as "an extraordinary development", adding: "Circumcision is the most potent intervention in HIV prevention that has been described."

I'm so sorry. This is so serious. BUT PRECISELY BECAUSE OF THAT I JUST FUCKING DIED LMAO

lol
