So. April

Whew! I'm back, for now. I won't go through a whole litany. Let's just say April was...busy.

Well...okay. A summary, at least. The first week, winding up the final loose ends of a writing/editing gig that was about to end (to my current financial dismay, but that's another story). Then wrecking my ankle, which added stuff like doctors' visits and four-times-a-day icing to the busy schedule. Then there was an afternoon spent doing the taxes online (ours are due on the 30th in Canada, not the 15th), which was jaw-droppingly horrifying, and which necessitated an emergency morning at H&R Block. (Who managed to make them somewhat less horrifying, but still unexpectedly devastating to the finances.)

And then the edit of a massive book, which was really interesting but which took every waking moment that wasn't spent doing all the emergency stuff from the previous paragraph. The book was full of air force titles and positions and operations and names, and then airline titles and training and names, and technical information about planes and about flying. Fascinating stuff, but I swear, for the first few chapters, it was like I spent fifteen minutes hunting something down in the Chicago Manual of Style for every two lines of text in the book. I thought I wouldn't get it done before Christmas, at that rate! But that did settle down after a few chapters, and the big edit was finally done right at the end of the month. That will cover the rent -- in August. If I survive till then.

It's been an adventure. I think May will be less time-consumed. On the other hand, it will be more financially frightening. I've already got another book edit, but these take at least two months, and often longer, for me to actually see the money. So the pacing of the floor (which I can do more of now, since my ankle's getting better, lucky me) is not about to abate any time soon.

Still, I got a fanfic chapter done this morning, yay! I got two blog posts done today, yay! (Book reviews of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and The Swan Thieves, Kostova's second novel.) I may get back to a chapter of my novel tomorrow, yay! So there are compensations, still.

I hope to be less scarce for a while again. But who knows what will come up next, eh??
