February 25th: Lost editing weekend

Feb 25, 2012 17:17

So. My editors sent me a corrupted file. The Honkin' Hyuge Book Edit I was planning to do today, tomorrow, all week, and next weekend, is now delayed if not cancelled. (A thousand dollars, swirling down the drain as I watch??)

The issue at first appeared to be that I only have Word 2007, and this book was written in Word 2010. But when I emailed it to a friend with 2010, to convert and save as 2007 for me -- it crashed whenever he tried to open or do anything with it. He did manage to create a PDF for me, so I could at least see what was in it. But that's useless, because my editing is required to be in Word, with Track Changes on.

This left me a little at a loss for what to do today, since I had had no other thought but plowing as far into that edit as I could go. (It's three times longer than my usual books, with no extra days to do it in.)  I did finally settle on trying to bash out another chapter on my non-fiction book (the book about how to write a non-fiction book). So Chapter 4 of that is almost done; I've just got a few paragraphs left, yay! But it took a while for me to settle on it.

Tomorrow? I'm backing up my computer files, uploading more photos for storage at Flickr and Picasa, and probably writing another chapter on my Havoc story.

And! I'm making cookies. I deserve them, after the day I've had today. Grrr.

Now, for this evening. Watching anime, perhaps? Hm Yes, I think so.
