***POETS don't forget to come out and battle for our Indie Champ spot, we will be sending a rep to iWPS. . .
***Also Tourettes will be starting a new monthly 21 and over show that focuses more on comedy, but will still have a head to head Slam battle. Jamie will be hosting and even doing some comedy himself, First show is in July--Tourette's Presents Down & DIrty. . . More details to come.
---THIS THURSDAY we're featuring one of the most popular slammers/comedians in the world today, the MIGHTY MIKE MCGEE. This man has toured from one end to the globe to the other, and is a one man tour de force. He's making a rare return appearance at our show before we goes off on his travels again. We'll also be featuring BEER BELLY BURLESQUE, a disturbing eat off contest, the powerful and punchy performances of the LIGHTNING ROMANTICS, two rising stars from the Write Bloody crew, a insane freestyle battle with hungry emcees battling for the cash and the hilarious stand up of Bay Area underground comedian SAMMY OBEID. This show promises to be the best of Tourettes, high brow lyricism with gutter comedy and low brow pranks!
---BOOZE A'FLOWING: The Metro has finally been awarded their permanent liquor lisence, so no more having to paper bag it in the car! We'll have evil drinking contests to celebrate, including the King Adios Motherfucker crowning and the beer belly showdown.
---DIRTY HAIKU: KIM JOHNSON has finally been dethroned after a long and savage run by TATYANA, who will be facing SETH WALKER from Houston, TX in a five round throwdown of wicked wit and graphic comedy. Who will win the infamous GOLDEN COCK award?
---INDIE TOURETTES CHAMPIONSHIP: JAYLEE ALDE took first in the last show with his searingly sexy ode to whiskey, which sets him as the front runner for the Tourettes Indie Championship to represent us at the International Individual Slam Finals in October. Only ONE poet will be awarded this mighty mantle and will do battle with slammers from across the nation to take the title. After announcing the new contest, our last slam was ferocious, with one of the best line-ups I've seen in awhile. I expect fireworks coming this show!
---HEAVYWEIGHT HILARITY: This last Tourettes saw the crowning of a new champ and the return of a crowd favorite with MADNESS vs. KODYACK, a bout that went down after a ridiculous musical chairs contest against TRUE TEMPER. The shit still has me laughing. Watch the big boys swing with wicked punchlines, and I gotta say MADNESS is one of my favorites in the battle scene right now, he raps with the absurd timing of a stand up comedian and has the punchlines to prove it. If you missed it, it's up on youtube thanks to my man VOCAB! Congrats to our new champ! The prelim and semi-final freestyle bouts are right next to the clip from the last show!

----GRINDTIME TRY-OUTS where emcees battle each other for a chance to compete in the big time arena of Grindtime. The rules are simple, three one minute acapella rounds, judged by a who's who of emcees and hip hop luminaries. They'll be going down at the Metro BEFORE Tourettes STARTING at 7pm, hosted by Mr. California LUSH ONE. For fans of whiplash fast insults and brutal lyrical beatdowns, this is where it goes down.
THIS THURSDAY's FEATURES: "Mighty" Mike McGee is an international spoken word artist, writer, performer, speaker, slam poet and comic. He has performed in thousands of venues all over North America, and was one of the first Americans ever to perform poetry at the University la Sorbonne in Paris, France. In 2003, McGee won the coveted National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Championship, besting over 300 nationally ranked poetry slammers. He has since toured over 300,000 miles throughout the United States and Canada where fellow National Poetry Slam Indy Champ, Shane Koyczan and beat-boxer poet extraordinaire C.R. Avery (of Vancouver, B.C.) joined him to form the group Tons of Fun University in 2004. In 2006, McGee became the first person to win two separate individual titles by being crowned the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, besting over 70 of the world's best ranked slam poets. His "stand-up poetry" has been written about in Writer's Digest magazine, and been featured on NPR, HBO and CBC. Mike McGee books internationally and is on tour damn-near 300 days a year.
SAMMY OBEID: In June 2007, the first month of his standup career, Sammy instantly advanced from preliminary rounds to semi-finals to the ---finals of the 2007 San Jose Improv Comedy Competition, where he ultimately competed against 9 of the Bay Area's fiercest comedians. Within his first year in comedy he won first place in the 2008 Rooster T Feathers Comedy Competition, and within his first year and a half he won first place in the 2008 San Jose Improv Comedy Competition and placed 2nd in Wild 94.9's Best Comic Standing Competition. Having graduated from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business while simultaneously earning a degree in Applied Mathematics with emphasis in Probability Theory (all done with a G.P.A of 3.9091, but who's counting anyway?), Sammy is fully equipped to lead a career in living with his parents and memorizing girls' myspace pages.
