I'm coming back to LJ after running silent for most of the year - but, I'm moving the show from complex88 back over to kaseido . I've imported all my entries from complex88 , and I'll be picking up where I left off back there. Here's a little FAQ on the whole process.

- WTF? Well, it's like this...
- Why are you going back to "Kaseido?" It's been my handle, email address, blog name, and general online identity for the better part of 12+ years. I moved away from it, seeing it as being strongly identified with a period of my life - my space advocacy days - which is long over. But, those associations have faded, and I'm trying to get my expanded social media presence all tidied up under either my full name or the "Kaseido" label.
- Where have you been? On Facebook, mostly - and please feel free to friend me as John Carter McKnight, there. I've also been on Twitter as john_carter (which I might rename Kaseido, for overall simplicity's sake).
- Why haven't you been blogging? Well, I've had a flaitly year. I changed graduate programs, had some family losses, struggled with the category-confusion oddness of being a grad student while really feeling my late-40s age, and generally trying to figure out who I am and who my friends are. Typically, I tried to do that by crawling up in my own head and piling pillows around it :P
- What are you going to be blogging about? Probably a lot like what I used to, with less fannish stuff. Grad school follies, some sci-tech news I want to talk about beyond just linking to on Facebook and Twitter, and just personal whatever. I've really been out of fandom this year - it's been at least 4 months since I turned on the TV for anything other than political news; I've seen one movie this year; and I've almost completely dropped comics (thanks to travesties by Grant Morrison and Mark Millar). I have been listening to a lot of music, though - electronica, trance, EBM - and reading more "good" SF - I've been on a Greg Bear kick lately.I've started back up in Worlds of Warcraft as one of my major diversions, and had some spectacularly cool vacations. So, like that.
- Should we re-friend Kaseido? If you want to follow me. I'm not the same person, and don't have the same interests, I did when I started on LJ nearly five years ago.You might as well unfriend complex88 - I'll probably pull the whole thing down, now that I've imported all the posts to kaseido . If you don't want to friend me over there, no hard feelings. If you do, well, welcome!
- Give me the quickie recap. Meh - I was pretty completely checked out for the summer. In the fall, I started back at school in a different department, and I'm just starting to settle into a niche and a plan of study. More on that later, but it's less virtual worlds stuff and more new media and politics. I'm working part time as New Media Coordinator for a campus institute's project on transhumanism, which is a terrific gig. Still living in the same place with technosage and Mikey the kitty. Fatter, despite efforts that even extended so far as exercising a couple times. :P
