Why are humans so constantly petty and insensitive?
It amazes me how completely idiotic people can act sometimes...
A Killing Frost
There is an emptiness of spirit,
a taint upon our soul,
a coveting of material,
the loss of an honorable goal.
It was not inborn in us,
we put it there with greed,
an ignorance of suffering,
a deaf ear to those in need.
We covered it in concrete,
reinforcing it with steel,
and in our building fever,
removed the capacity to feel.
Our lives we rule with timeclocks,
appointments, financial goals,
we’ve welcomed in the devils,
and paid the price in souls.
Can you not hear Nature calling?
“Come lose yourself in me,
forsake your modern madness,
in forests, mountains, sea.”
We don’t know where we’re going,
or understand yet where we’ve been,
or know the price of sacrifice,
until we pay the wages of our sin.
Salvation is in the doing,
we each must do our part,
to give something back or suffer yet
a killing frost of the human heart.
