Fate/Stay Night: The Holy Grail War for Dummies
With the announcement of an air date for the Fate/Stay Night adaptation, I thought I'd do a brief write up of the origins of the Holy Grail War.

A long time ago, the head of the Einzbern family of mages was a otaku who wanted to make his 2D waifu real. Yet no matter how powerful he became, his attempts at making 2D waifu only resulted in 3DPD (derogatory term for real women).
Launching his grandest attempt, he gathered together his buddy Tohsaka (a dropout from dimensional magic class but still good people), Makiri (a pervert who wrote celebrity fanfics) and a couple of cosplay fetishists. Together they succeeded in creating the "Cup of Heaven" so they could reach the "Root" (arcane terminology for having sex).
Unfortunately, they couldn't agree on would Root first, so they got into a big argument and stopped being friends. Thus began the first Holy Grail War.
