I was in the
Penny Arcade Auto Assault beta weekend last weekend. I have to say, it has some sick appeal to me.
What can I say - I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic worlds. And literature. And just about everything else.
The cars are cool, some of them turn into Robots (though that feature wasn't implemented) and the gameplay mechanics are pretty slick. The beta only had character levels up to 20, so there didn't seem to be much call for any sort of grouping. That is directly the opposite from D&D Online, where grouping was a must in order to get through all the crazy dungeoning experiences.
The game's graphic style is pretty reminiscent of City of Heroes,
unsurprising as it is the same publishing company (NCSoft). A little surprising as it is a different development house.
Cryptic Studios versus
NetDevil. One thing is for sure, though - my computer needs an overhaul to reduce heat. The graphics are super pretty on high res with anti-aliasing turned on. But my computer got all hot and bothered after about an hour of play.
I might actually pick this one up after release some time. It seems enjoyable.
