Saul Alinsky

The political junkies among us have been hearing Newt (everyone's favorite amphibian) tossing out Saul Alinsky's name like a curse all along the campaign trail.  I consider myself reasonably well-informed, but to be honest, I had no idea who he was, or why he was deserving of all the Newt-ron bombs.   I'll own right up front that anyone so hated by Newt is almost certainly someone I'd like to know.

Do yourself a favor and read (at least) the Wikipedia article about him.   Apparently, his link to Obama is that he was a Chicago-based community organizer.  His efforts to benefit the labor movement and the African-American community were the subject of no less than Hilary Clinton's senior honors thesis at Wellesley College.  Interestingly, Alinsky's book, Rules for Radicals, is one of the guides that Tea Party officials distribute to their groups all over the country as a textbook guide that helps organize grassroots movements for change.
