Review: Someone to Watch Over Me

Damn, way to make with the crazy this episode....almost as trippy as Cally's psychedelic episode..

Boomer-

LONG STORY? This is my one big pisser about the episode. I saw a lot of potential in Boomer. Perhaps she won't repend, as she didn't in the episode we saw, but I though “wow, heres a point where Boomer and Adama can talk at least”. I think so much could come of them being face to face, and it sucked that Adama only mentions his shooting. Waste of on opportunity. But who knows? Maybe her death (I'm certain she is going to die.) will bring her back to the beginning. How cool would it be for her to take a bullet (or two..) for Adama at the end? She'd die exactly as she wanted during her slow understanding of being a puppet, when she tried to kill herself before she harmed someone.

And let's not forget that Boomer screams “I shot a man I love!” when she resurrects for the first time. I believed there was a bit of her that still loves the Old Man as a father, especially since he IS her only father (I'm not counting Cavil and Tigh as fathers, since she doesn't remember either of the creating her). So I was dissapointed a bit...still I loved that she played Chief AGAIN. I totally didn't see it coming, but thats because of the first paragraph. Bitch, shoving a little kid in a container. Can she eve BREATH in there?

SHORT STORY? Sharon Valerii invented “Crazy Eights”

Helo and Chief-

LONG STORY? Oh my word, those two....too naïve for their own good. And tell me this, Helo my dear, that you cannot recognize your wife among her sisters, yet Adama seems to know its Boomer the second she speaks? If you recall, he has that look on his face like when Gaius began speaking from a Basestar. And he's HUMAN. Not to mention Chief sniffs her out (literally), and Athena knows by looks. I wondered when they were going to address that issue....would have liked to, you know, have been told how the Cylons did that...

Chief, you fail. At least Helo only made the mistake of sexing up the wrong Eight. You thought she'd just escape and go back to Cavil. Right. Thats not being naïve about your wife acting slightly off. Thats being a dumbshit. Well, at least he didn't know about kidnapping Hera....still, I'm pissed at him for putting his love for a woman that is essentially dead over the Old Man. And saying all that while said Old Man is IN THE FRAKIN ROOM. To quote Hermione Granger and Nick, he's got the emotional range of a teaspoon and the tact of a blunt axe in that scene.

SHORT STORY? Helo/Chief got played like a hot/tubby violin. By Eights. AGAIN.

Adama-

LONG STORY? First off, I HATE HATE HATE his drinking. It's one of my personal peeves. But you can see it so well how badly the drinking is effecting him. He LOOKS tired and drawn and so so done with things. Both his girls falling.

Not very much of him this episode. Kind of nice. There isn't much need to poke and prod him right now. That's what the last few eps have been for. Gorgeous as they were (I loved seeing so much of his heart these past eps), it would have been wearing. The last scene we get when Galactica is damaged of him is all we really needed. Can't wait for the end of his story. It better be damn good or he better die when Laura does, or else Sine Qua Non was an hour's worth of fail. He can't live without her, and none of us want to see that.

Also, yeah, this is going to frak the Adamas up. All three of them. I think Kara will play a role close to her death. Lee has his whole “I love my space!mommy” thing back along with his balls, apparently, and Bill...oh man this is going to be the end of a hero in my heart, it really is. It's like Hercules (in myth, not Disney) and realizing how tragically great heroes of the ancient world and reccent fiction (including film and tv) die. Dumbledore fallen to his own grief over his family, Hamlet over the injustice of his father's death, Faraday (sort of) to a love that cannot be despite her heroism, Obi-wan, Boromir, etc etc. They fall and it's epic.

SHORT STORY? I want to hug this man and bring him a good cup of tea. Captain Kirk didn't have to put up with this shit, indeed, Eddie.

Roslin-

LONG STORY? Laura played very few roles in this episode, just like Adama. Again, thank you. Let's get a breath, shall we? Nice to let her fall back into the noise for just a little bit. Made the last scene even more “OMFG!” worthy.

Her no nonsence self was back, all Mrs. President. And I loved it. No attachments (strong as her love for her 'family' had made her, it also weakens her), no qualms, just Laura. And she knows well enough that emotion can ruin you (Thank you, Gaeta/Tom). So she is in full FRAKYOU!mode for brushing aside Chief's pleas. I enjoy this side of her.

The fainting when Hera was kidnapped? Nice playing the connection! We've got the Opera House tape by Dreileide Thrace onboard and alive in Kara, a Dying Leader really dying now, and now the blood-connection sparking to life. I'm excited to see what comes of it, but also terrified. Think Caprica and Athena will see her coming into Life Station? Might be a nice scene between the three of them.

SHORT STORY? Hey, look, its Ressurection Ship only without the ressurection. :-(

Kara-

LONG STORY? Damn, I thought we'd never see Kara's special destiny. And yet, here it is! I enjoyed the specter of her father in Slick, but considering the age of the child!Kara in the visions, she'd remember her dad's face, I think.

Besides that, it was cool. Her dream, the monotony of her day (which has been complained about). Really, I liked the monotonous feeling. We saw the crap we don't care about, the stuff that is their lives day in and day out. And c'mon. Last tub of Tauron TOOTHPASTE?!/”you need it.”That was FUNNY. I actually laughed out loud over that.

The playing still gives me chills. Must rewatch those scenes and try to catch the old!BSG song. I was raiding Naxxramas in WoW at the same time (they don't give up, my old Guild). But I loved it, and desperately want to learn to play it. Sadly, I can't devote the time to learn music reading (for those of you who know me, yes, I actually DID so 3yrs of choice w/o learning. None of us did.LOL). But nice transition, and we got to see Tigh's OMFG!face again. Yay.

SHORT STORY? Special!destiny is special. And actually being resolved. Word.

Overall- 7/10

LIKED THINGS- Roslin/Hera connection

Piano playing AATWT

Boomer's dream life

Helo/Boomer (um..is it getting hot in here? No, its just Tamoh and Grace)

DISLIKED THINGS-

No Adama/Boomer. Sad the drama was avoided, rly.

Chief's sudden stupidity.

The cut scenes of A/R that, missing, deflated the drama at the end.
