Skin treatment - acid or alkaline (sauer oder basisch?)

For as long as I can remember, the whole cosmetics industry wanted to tell me, that our skin is protected by an acid mantle and that products with a ph value of 5.5 are best for use. Recently I even had a body milk by sebamed with 5.2 because the ph value depends on age, gender, ethnic origin etc.

In one of my "surpise boxes" (PinkBox) I had a bath additive, that is on an alkaline base. They suggest using three spoons of this salt for a full tub and staying in there between 60-90 minutes. The supposed result is SOFT skin.
At the start the bath will have a ph value of about 8.4 and later on 7.5 due to chemical reactions between the water and the skin.

Then I started reading things online. Apparently fetus live in an environment of 8.5 and we all know how many people love the smooth and soft feeling and good smell of baby skin (they were saved from most chemicals in our environment in there!).

For German speaking people, you might want to read THIS.
I think it's very interesting. (TLDR; up to 50 years ago it was normal to use alkaline products and now the commercials tell us otherwise just to sell their stuff)

Now, this is the online world and for every website that says YES!, you'll find others that say NO!!!
I will test the bath additive this weekend and let you know (how bored I got when staying in the tub for an hour _._ ) I'll also need those little strips from chemistry lessons to check the ph value ;-)
