What I do: I study the design and development of software (software engineering) in an academic environment, and I build software tools to help achieve this goal.
Oh yes, I'm still a Ph.D student.
What I know: I like using computers to try to make my life and the lives of others easier. I know web programming, networking, Internet-based servers, and Unix/Linux/FreeBSD/Mac OS. (Also in the past few years, I've learned how to program more Ruby, some Python, and a little bit of Lua.)
What I talk about: Fandom and video games. I sometimes talk about real life, too. (When was the last fandom I've participated in? I don't even know.)
How I have fun: I enjoy martial arts, including Karate-do and Aikido, playing with gear like synthesizers, mixers, and MIDI controllers, setting up online services for myself, and upgrading my consumer electronics such as my television, my home theatre system, and my computer peripherals. I exercise regularly, play video games, drink beer, and go out. (Oops.... I don't exercise as much as I used to, but I do try to move around often and ride my bike to school. While I still try to do consumer electronics, I'm honestly too poor as a student to afford getting new things that often.)
I run a Suikoden game called
Pro Patria Mori that involves collaborative story writing with many authors. This game's been dead for a few years now.
I obviously post in my
Livejournal once in a while. ROFL ROFL LOL LOL
Recently started posting back here again: I'm pretty involved in the
Overclocked Remix video game remixing community.
I post on the
Suikoden Assumptions and Rumours Shelter board. (Sorry, still don't post on this board.)
I talk to people online using IRC, MSN, and AIM. (This is still true.)
I play
World of Warcraft. Yes and no, I can't believe that this was never on here. I've played WoW pretty religiously for a few years now (since 2006) but lately I've reduced my time in favour of
Aion. Yes, check out the sexy
angel art.
Blurbs:
I use a
Mac. (Incidentally, I also use Windows 7 now).
I recently
took a trip to Japan. False, this was a LONG time ago. But, lately I've traveled to India, the USA, and various parts of Canada.
I want an
Alesis Micron.
Sound on Sound Review. I bought one of these about two years ago. It's pretty fun though.
NEW STUFF:
I actually make music on a regular basis now. See:
One Hour Compo @ ThaSauceOne-hour Compo is like the most exciting part of my week now. You get one hour to write a song, mix it, and post it, which means that you really get about a minute or two of ideas that aren't polished, mixed well, or even in proper scales. But it's amazing what people can do in one hour. Here are
my songs, but you probably don't want to listen to them all, many are pretty terrible.
I'm running out of fandom events to talk about, so this journal might end up turning toward real life, which is, in my opinion, more interesting than fandom to just about nobody except myself.
LOLCats suck. This is not a matter of personal preference - it is a declared fact that there is no LOL in LOLCats anymore.
On an aside note, I'm surprised at how many people still post around on my Friends list. It's like the people I knew never left. I guess I'm the loner then, eh?
