“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Albert Einstein
I got a new work computer last Thursday. I am now on day 3 of no productivity due to setting this computer up. First, I tried to connect to the printer. I tried the way that worked with other computers first. It didn't work. Then I tried several other ways, none of which worked. Then I tried the way that worked with other computers again. It worked. NOTHING changed between the two times trying to do the same thing. Logic out the window.
Then comes installing a virus protection program. The university offers one as a free download from their website for all students. I downloaded it. It didn't work. I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. It still didn't work, but this time in a different way. How does that happen? I finally figured out that there was an add-on download that I needed to also get (which was not obvious, and not included in the original download), after which it finally worked.
Today, I was trying to install Microsoft Office. First, I had to uninstall the trial version that came with the computer. I did that, and then moved on to installing. Three times I put in the CD and went through all the actions, and nothing showed up. I would check the desktop, program files, start menu, etc., still nothing. I noticed that there was a Microsoft Office Small Business Web package thing on the list of programs, and apparently that had to also be uninstalled in order for the Office CD to install everything properly.
This is a huge pain. I am literally doing things that would be considered insane.
