If you're bored this weekend and want to take a drive, I've got the place for you. I ended up at this place because my original plans were rained out, but it was wonderful and worth the drive:
Kramer Farms
10944 N. State Route 2
Rockford, IL 61102
Phone: 1-815-209-6704 Randy
Open 7 days a week
Oct. 1 through Nov. 15, 2008
They have pumpkins, apples, squash, gourds, and some crafty items. You don't get to pick the apples, but they are really tasty. Farmer Kramer is also rather entertaining to talk to. We spent at least 45 minutes there. The other beauty of this place is that it's along Route 2, which is a beautiful, winding road along a river with a lot of trees. If you go east from the farm, there's another few miles of great driving and even some picnic areas where you could stop. On Sunday, only a couple of the trees had started to change. If you go this weekend or the next, I'm sure it will be brilliantly beautiful to drive along that road. And tell Farmer Kramer that you were sent by a friend!
