Jarod had a long list of things, of events, that he wished he could have shared with his brother. Luminaria. Pumpkin pie, the way that one diner in New York made it. Jumping into piles of leaves, the way neither of them got to as kids.
Let them know it's Christmastime at home--
--dressed in holiday style--
--and if you ever saw it, you would--
--all is calm, all is bright!
Going to a mall, the day after Thanksgiving, wasn't one of them. In fact, it was an event Jarod was beginning to wish he'd skipped himself.
Up at the counter, someone was yelling at the cashier that the coupon did so apply, what do you mean I can't read?
For just a second, Jarod let himself imagine Kyle here. Probably shoving his way through to the customer being nasty, pretending to be upper management, and throwing her out of the store. Or worse. Then Jarod forced himself to stop. He missed Kyle enough: day-dreaming didn't help.
On the other hand, the idiot up front was still screaming.
