... it's been hard to look at the referees in the other games I watched today. And especially with Real's shitty behaviour at some points. (Some nice play at other points, but sorry, just how dumb was the defense there once again? I thought we were over that?)
The German referee Babak Rafati, who was supposed to handle the Bundesliga game between Cologne and Mainz earlier today, has - according to rumours that were later confirmed - attempted suicide prior to the match. He was found and saved by his co-refs in the hotel where they were staying and is currently in the emergency but out of danger.
I was waiting for the game to finally start when things got strange and nobody knew what was going on until the radio broadcast reported the first rumours.
It's... he's a good man, you know? one of the good, rather popular referees, too. I don't know... I mean I don't feel like I've ever been wrong to rage about the mistakes any referees have made, but being confronted with a situation like that - it makes it more apparent that those are real people, too, with proper lives and own problems, not just figures to mock or antagonists.
