I'm sorry for those who feel depressed because of Valentine's, that's very sad indeed. But there are also many who simply don't like it and project all the negative into it.
You know, there is too much negativity, too much anger, hate and depression in my life as it is to waste any energy on hating a day that is designed to celebrate love. Why should I at all? Commerce? Oh God, that's so pseudo intellectual. Should we abolish all holidays that make us buy presents?
People always go on about all the happy couples when they're alone, and so easily can forget about that once they're not alone anymore. Should I think ill of people just because they live differently? Because they're happy in a relationship? I can envy those who are happy, but it's not their fault, I can't blame them.
In short, I'm too old and too fucking fragile to dislike the Valentine's Day. I can only hope other people can/learn to deal with it, each in their own way.
I couldn't agree more! And so much agreement here on the "that's so pseudo intellectual" part! Dude, sure, all the holidays are commercial. But saying it all the time and feeling all superior and haughty because of it... makes me laugh (sorry - I've clearly spent too long in an academic environment. Pseudo intellectual wank so pisses me off!!!) I hope those who like it, enjoy it. I hope those who don't, manage to ignore it. Personally, it creeps me out a bit that both Valentine's day and our similar love day have such a creepy, bloody history. But that's my professional cretinism talking!
Oh yes. Pseudo intellectual wank is one of those things that instantly drives me up the wall, I just CAN'T deal with people who start it, you can't argue with them, they'll just ignore anything else.

I know... It's horrible. And it's not that I have anything against arguments, not at all, but I can stand people who cannot argue (as opposed to fighting, I guess) and change their opinions or even stick to them but at least listen to other arguments w/o outright dismissing them
