About Rivalry
To my mind rivalry doesn't mean you're bound to hate another person, not even hate another institution.
Maybe I'm biased due to watching too many old-school sports animes, but I believe that, while you needn't like your rival, sporting rivalry can foster respect and understanding instead of loathing.

"The pressure people put on themselves and the rivalry between the teams is much more marked. And I think that's a good thing. As long as that rivalry remains within the spirit of competition, it can only spur everyone on."
