When squirrels attack, you need to fight back! Back when I was a kid, we used to hang water balloons from trees so they were about 6 inches off the ground. Then we'd smear some chunky peanut butter on the bottom of them and wait for hilarity to ensue.
Granted, water's pretty harmless, but one could probably come up with something better ... if so inclined.
