HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! What a terrific day, and it's only 12:30...
I woke up obscenely early this morning, (early enough to have a shower, dry my hair, pick a valentine's themed outfit, do my make - up, stop at ride-aid to get candy for my workers - and be able to do all of this in time to catch the streetcar out to the museum for work at 10.)anyway, low and behold, i miss the carrollton, which comes hourly. so i sit waiting in the wretched cold by myself. shortly afterwards, this guy with dreads comes and sits next to me. and TAA- DAA!, like a shining light from heaven there is a lit blunt in his magnificently beautiful hand. so of course i initiate conversation. his name is james, and a cook at ruth's chris' ($score$$hookup$), he was on his way to paint his new $74 air force ones for mardi gras. i hit the blunt a few times and notice some lady just laughing at us. she's all " mmm -hmm." so james gets on his merrily pink and red, yet rainy and cold day. this woman and i start talking, and i have more or less no fucking clue what she's telling me about. but the content was soooo typically new orleans. after all of my responses to her inquiries of my life, talk of the rta schedules, the rain, and her diabites, i got an answer something along the lines of " i huuurd that","mmmhmmm","ooh child!","baayyhhhhbey" and so forth... the carrollton finally comes and i'm just looing out the window and listening to peoples' conversations on rta schedules, parade cancellation due to rain, how $34 is way too much to ship a king cake to their sister in st. louis, and the usual february rainy,(but valentine's!), day conversation.
so, the farther down carrollton we get, the heavier the downpour becomes. so by the time we're by the museum, i've made up my mind to pass right by ntake the carrollton all the way to the end, and pay the return fee back.( also i've had an insatiable curiosity to find out where the carrollton goes after my departure. ) so after going all the way the fuck past elysian fields, we turned around. ( i also found it amusing that 3 of the other women had decided to stay the entire route, and turn around and go back as well.)whilst on the bus, i made the decision to come home, get my coat, change clothes and head to the library for some much merrited reading. i also want to stop and pick up some valentine's candy for my dad( but right now i'm not so sure because he's kind of being an asshole). so on the way back,i redid my hair into a monstrosity of sorts, up in a wild crazy bun, with a bright pink ribbon and some woman kept looking at me as if i were a baby and chuckling. so farther down, who should climb aboard but the same woman i was talking to with james, and now she's with her daughter. she was so excited to see me, which made me anxiousto return the feeling. she proclaimed " this must mean good luck!", as if i were to be the bearer of good fortune to another person. anyway, it made me happy to know that i could perform such a feat. she got off, leaving her daughter to run an errand at the drug store. getting onto the st. charles streetcar did not seem like it was going to be an easy task due to weather restrictions, but as it turned out, only shortly after my shivering began did the daughter pull me under her umbrella and walk me where i needed to go.
on the streetcar i saw the coolest fucking kid. i really wanted to talk to him, but decided against it due to everyone already thinking me a pedaphile a sorts. he had gotten on outside of a school, so maybe he had saturday detention or something.couldn't be more than about 11, was sporting a backpack, some crazy ass unkemptedhair, a sweatshirt, khakis completely covered with mudsplotches to his knees, and some of the rattiest tennis shoes i have seen. this kid was AWESOME, and made me long for my days of simpler worries. anyway, i'm home now and really want to go to the library, but it's insanely raining. maybe i'll suck it up and go...
to sum things up, i was really worried about the decline of humanity until this morning when i realized that people are amazing, and you shouldn't let the behavior of a few blemish your opinion of all.
anyway, i hope the parades tonight aren't cancelled. holla.
