on saturday we found ourselves on bank street bathed in robins blue skies and warm sunshine, eating ice cream and enjoying the sheer idiocy of cocky men passing by in cars. to think that simply calling out "hey baby where you at" to a group of men at a penzoil station (despite the obvious answer to the question) could evoke five or six grown men to gaggle and one to begin stripping off his clothes- it was enough for any well mannered group of girls to laugh hysterically...

then we found ourselves in a maze of glass and wood and history, an antique store mere minutes away from our white house next year. there were baskets of old photographs and letters for sale, a myriad of family portraits and captured memories, little fragments of times gone by. i picked up several at fifty cents apiece to take home with me, and now there is a yellowed, dogeared photo of a man in a suit holding nice leather gloves by my stereo and sailor by a palm tree by my phone, with "Saigon- 8/11/'49" on the black in scrawled black ink. and by my light theres "edna" and "millie" and "ethel" with pincurled bobs and coke bottle glasses looking anxiously towards the camera, pulling at their dresses.i wish i could run back through time and give them all a hug. and dates for the dance.

i told my sister about the photos and she remarked how bizarre it would be to have someone come across these pictures in my room and realize that it was infact an old family photo of theirs, a grandfather, a great aunt...bizarre, yes. surreal, yes. but, we realized, surely possible.it's such a strangely small world we live in that i wouldnt count it impossible.

which leads me to wonder, has anyone had any really trippy small world experiences? not including that horrible disneyland ride which makes you contemplate death at any age by the five millionth verse, but an actual real life "small world" experience?
