While I can not defend the point or purpose of this self-indulgent post, I can refuse to care. It is pretty useless, as I can only listen to so much music, and inevitably some of the greatest music has not reached my ears. This order is somewhat loose, except for the top spot.
1. Antony and the Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now
2. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
3. Sunn 0))) - Black One
4. Sigur Ros - Takk...
5. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
6. Wolf Parade - Apologies To the Queen Mary
7. Shining - In the Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster
8. M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us
9. Tagaq - Sinaa
10. Archer Prewitt - Wilderness
I regret not being able to put certain things on the list, such as The Boy Least Likely To, Venetian Snares, Bloc Party, and The Clientele, as they also had awesome albums. I also regret not being able to put up people like Aimee Mann and Manic Street Preachers, because they are great bands but with completely mediocre albums (for the most part).
I'm pretty certain that no one reading this has listened to Tagaq's album in it's entirety, and some may not even want to, but it's worth a go. Certainly not something you hear everyday, and it has a strange ugly/beautiful aesthetic that I enjoy.
On the other side of things, Christmas in Yellowknife was quite nice. Hung out with Miss White, saw the family, talked to an old friend, and watched movies. My gifts were quite satisfactory, highlights being Lisa Moore's first novel, Alligator, and two records from Laura, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and I See a Darkness, two of the greatest albums ever. However, the greatest gift of all has to go to Operation, the game that people only seemed to play at other people's houses but never personally owned. The most ingenius and infuriating game ever. Hours of fun at future gatherings, that everyone will be able to thank Laura for.
