I haven't seen Hamilton, so I don't know exactly what that means, but I know he was of the more outspoken progressives among the founding fathers, and considering far-left leaning progressives are nuts over it, I won't disagree with similarities at least in tone.
As for disjointed, it's beat poetry. The nature is to flow from one related thought to another, to weave a bigger picture, generally for the emotional impact of causing the listener to be disturbed or outraged or both, or whatever kind of journey the author intends to take them on.
This is less than 1000 words. It's one of my shortest pieces. It's also the shortest entry submitted by anyone this week, outside of the other two poems, which are not in beat form, or else they would both most likely also equal or exceed it, as that is the nature of beat poetry. Formatting makes a big difference. The ants in a line nature of the manual returns cause it to move pretty far down the page, but it shouldn't take more than about 90 seconds to read... more if one spends any time ruminating on the concepts expressed. I would hope by the time we've passed the top 10 mark, most anyone still in the running should be considered worth the effort of at least that much invested time, or we wouldn't still be here.
Perhaps I read slowly, or with intent, but I pulled up your entry on my phone, started the stopwatch and came right back. Even subtracting 10 seconds for going back and forth to the timer - which seems generous - it took me a touch over 4 minutes to read.
So it may indeed be your shortest piece, and it’s definitely worth the time to read it, because it’s quite good, but there you go.
The tone of your reply to my comment sounded a bit defensive. My intent was merely to be honest and slightly humorous and I didn’t mean to give offense. I apologize if it came off as negative.
I think when it comes to writing styles, be it poem, fiction, or essay, our styles are polar opposites. You’re very thorough; I write what needs to be written. I’m sure we can both take a bit of knowledge from the other. Just my thoughts.
