Disintegration
Every day you come to me,
Blinded to reality,
As I recoil from your very touch.
I catch you drooling as I dress. . .
Your fingers trace a soft caress. . .
If only that could be enough.
You beg me to profess to you,
As if to speak it makes it true.
You beat your chest with everything you’ve done.
You’re desperate to assuage my pain. . .
I’d buy that if you’d break this chain.
My heart is not a trophy to be won.
Your sighs confess you know the score:
You cannot hold me anymore.
Your penitence won’t help you understand;
Obsession comes attached with strings.
I never asked you for a thing. . .
Now I can only sigh, “Yes, and?”
