[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Rokudo Mukuro (Ten Years Later version)
Age: 25(?)
Gender: Male
Fandom: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Timeline: Chapter 169 of the manga, right after Byakuran appears to have “killed” him.
History:
Wikipedia article Character Personality:
One’s first impression of Mukuro will, more often than not, be favorable: if his clean looks aren’t enough, there’s the fact that he’s probably the smoothest motherfucker in town. From the languid, indolent way that he carries himself to the fact that he just knows exactly what to say in any situation, Mukuro most definitely possesses a very magnetic personality, the kind that most may find themselves invariably drawn to no matter what. The fact that he KNOWS this very well often works to his advantage, and to the detriment of those who try to associate with them.
Hang around Mukuro for too long, however, and you’re likely going to fall victim to his whimsical ways. Mukuro ISN’T just playful… his picture, in fact, ought to be right beside the definition for ‘trickster’ in the dictionary. He is not oblivious to the suffering other people, nor is he dense - he is simply, purely apathetic to it. Human beings and human affairs do not interest him in the slightest: as far as he is concerned, people are only good if he can toy with them, or if he can use them. Why get attached, after all, if nothing’s built to last? As such, he’s likely to use and abuse whoever opens themselves to it, and taunt/mock/push around those who are not. Then, once he’s bored, he’ll toss his old toys out and go skipping off in search of new ones. You’ll be lucky if he even remembers your name, once he’s done with you.
Mukuro was a lot rougher in the past, and fueled purely by his resentment for the mafia game and everything it has come to represent in his world… he hopes to destabilize the whole institution, if not become responsible for its complete destruction. Furthermore, the experiments that were done upon his person injected a great amount of power and knowledge into his brain that he had been unable to handle when he was younger, leaving him with little else but his rage and the remembrance of a whole lot of pain. The years, however, have given Mukuro time to sort through what was given to him, giving him a very odd sense of clarity when it came to himself and to the world he walks on. It may be safe to view his state of mind as something like a darker reflection of the Nirvana that most Buddhists ascribe to: an informed detachment from the world that knows no compassion and no pity, only the gift of foresight and a whole lot of wry amusement.
All in all, Mukuro is a narcissist, and a creature of instinct: he has a goal in mind, and it colors every move that he makes, but he plans to amuse himself each and every step of the way. He’s fickle, he’s cruel, he’s arrogant, and he doesn’t care a whiff what you think of him, nor will he hesitate to remove you if you try to stand in his way.
Character Abilities: (ORIGINAL SET; SEALED OR STRIPPED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)
The seat of Mukuro’s host of abilities lies in his left red eye… the more formal name for them is the Six Paths of Rebirth, something that was carved into his memories when he was experimented in his youth. Basically, he was forced to go through all six paths of Hades, and, because he survived the horrific process, he walked away with abilities corresponding to the knowledge he was given along the different paths.
First, Mukuro has the power to generate illusions that are tangible to all five senses of his victims, giving him the upper hand over his opponents through sheer trickery. There are varying levels to his spells, which can range from simple fabrications to developing them so “realistically” that a person can actually end up physically harmed by them. This, of course, implies that Mukuro’s illusions rely on how much his opponents believe in his creations… the more they believe in them, the more susceptible they are to their effects. Knowing that they are illusions is just the first step to unraveling them - it takes a great amount of willpower to ignore the sort of things that Mukuro is capable of conjuring.
Second, Mukuro has been granted an amazing level of physical prowess - whether it is the eye that actually makes him preternaturally stronger and faster than most human beings or if it’s because the eye grants him the ability to see through his opponent’s moves is not clarified in canon. Either way, he is a fighter of great skill, and the fact that he has little regard for human life makes him an even deadlier opponent than most.
Third, Mukuro has the ability to separate himself from his own body and possess other creatures, be they animals or people - the possession does not just include him being able to move them as he wills, but also allows him to use their signature techniques and skills. Of course, possessing others requires a lot of concentration on Mukuro’s part, as he has to be perfectly in sync with his victim’s mind in order to initiate contact and shift over to his body of choice.
Character Weaknesses:
It cannot be stressed enough: Mukuro’s personality makes him downright impossible to get along with at the end of the day. He is a narcissist with an overbearing belief that all humans are pathetic and weak: he does not trust people in general, since he feels that people can be easily manipulated. Overall, perhaps the best way to describe Mukuro is that he’s a force of nature - he does not make compromises, does not pull punches, and destroys whatever stands in his way, without exception.
Furthermore, given his propensity to do things on his own and listen to no one and nothing beyond himself, it’s entirely possible that Mukuro could get himself into some serious trouble, most especially if he ends up biting more than he can chew in combat. He is not reckless (hardly so), but it would not be a far stretch to expect him to mess up a mission that requires a great amount of collaboration by going solo, or finding the orders he’s given “too boring” and subsequently doing things his own way.
[ MEISTER SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister: Mukuro is too much of a selfish, whimsical asshole to allow himself to be used by anyone. He is the type to use rather than BE used, and answers to no authority save his own. If someone can stand him or is happy enough to submit themselves to his command, well and good. If not, then he couldn’t care less.
Beyond that, of course, is the fact that Mukuro can most certainly hold his own in a fight, with or without the powers that his eye provides him with. He is, at the end of the day, the farthest from helpless that one can possibly get.
Meister Ability - Soul Manipulate: Allows the Meister to control the target's actions for one minute for as long as eye-contact is maintained. Contact must be made with both eyes. If eye contact is broken, the ability ceases to function regardless of the minute.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: Cruel, slippery, cunning, fickle, apathetic, ruthless
Soul Appearance: Mukuro’s soul is dark blue in color and perfectly round in shape, and as such, it should come as a shock to see the tuft of “hair” sitting on top of its “head”, very reminiscent of the tuft of leaves on a pineapple… it may also be good to note the fact that one of its eyes is a deep red, much like the color of blood, and will switch between the Japanese characters for the numbers 1 though 6 at random. The expression it wears is always calm and smug, and will almost never be seen doing anything else but smirking oh-so-lightly at its viewer. His soul is also oddly “static”, and will appear to phase in and out of the user’s vision in the same fashion that a broken television set fesses up the pictures on its screen.
[ SAMPLES ]
First Person:
Oya, oya~ we’ve had such strange weather lately, haven’t we? I suppose it fits, given the strangeness that some of us have been encountering.
So. Is anyone willing to come out and play today? The novelty of attending classes has long worn off for me, and I’m certain that I’m not the only one who feels the same way.
Third Person:
It’s become his new favorite creation as of late: a distorted room, all red walls and mirrors and ivory pillars, with a floor checkered in stark black and blinding white. He keeps it bare save for the bathtub right in the middle, which he likes to drop back first into after wandering through the Fold. No water, of course. Water's bad for the leather.
“Ode to Joy” is the song of the moment and Rokudo Mukuro hums along, idly, one leg crossed over the other, foot swinging in tandem with the beat in his head. He folds his arms over his head, nodding along, nodding off at odd intervals, occasionally breaking the song in order to yawn, or to stretch like a cat on a hot and lazy summer’s day. There’s an odd feeling in him today, something he can’t quite place his finger on, something big enough for him to notice but small enough for him to ignore. Mostly.
Halfway through the whole symphony, Mukuro catches his reflection in the mirror, and he FINALLY figures out what was nudging at him that whole time. An idle wave of one gloved hand, and the shirt he was wearing underneath his long black coat - winter camo, all black and gray and white and sharp - shifts into something clean and white with shiny little buttons, complete with a tie snaked loosely about his neck. The man smiles, looking up into the reflection of his own mismatched eyes and curled lips in the mirror, before he picks the tune up all over again.
It’s never been about what’s right or wrong; only aesthetics. And he knows, for a fact, that he looks damned good in classic threads like these ones.
[ NOTES ] I tried to be as concrete as possible with Mukuro’s powers, but there isn’t much to go on in canon beyond the basics and whatever’s seen in the later chapters. I-I hope this is sufficient anyway. ;_;
