Here is a email letter that I have sent to my friends and family - feel free to modify and pass along if you desire.
For years I have been working with a organization (National Breast Cancer Coalition or NBCC) to get legislation passed that would help research, not just the cure, but the CAUSE of Breast Cancer. This is a movement to try to PREVENT breast cancer. I have to fight breast cancer - I've been put in a position with no other choice. This legislation that I am supporting isn't about my battle. It's about making sure that my sister and her daughter don't have to hope for a cure, it's about making sure that your daughters and sisters don't have to settle more tolerable chemo treatments, it's about changing the odds (according to www.cancer.gov - our own government recognizes that the odds were 1 in 10 in the 70s and is 1 in 8 today). Tell them to do something about it. Now.
Please read this link to a newspaper article on the senseless blocking of a bill that would give your representatives the ability to support or reject research related to finding the contributing factors of breast cancer and it's increase in the population.
http://www.tulsaworld.com/NewsStory.asp?ID=061031_Ne_a1_senator All that is being asked for is the opportunity to vote. Support for this legislation is completely bi-partisan.
What you can do:
At a minimum - complete this online petition and forward this request to others.
http://www.lesspinkmoreresearch.org/index.jhtml?_requestid=119214 or come see me if you'd like to fill out the paper version that I will be faxing on.
Better yet - call or email your representatives and ask them to put pressure on those who are blocking the bill to release it for vote. Find your legislators here (for example):
http://universityadvocacy.org/member/leg-lookup/search.tcl And to be most effective - call Senate Majority Leader Frist (202-224-3344) and Majority Whip McConnell (202-224-2541) daily with the message: Bring the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act to the floor when Congress returns in November!
Thanks!!
