Amazingly Stupid

I was watching the local news tonight (ABC, if it matters) and like for all local news, my expectations were not really that high. Obviously, we can't all be Cynthia Izzzzzzaggguirrrrre...

Anyway, they were talking about the earthquake in China's Sichuan province, all so serious and yes, of course, it's serious. It's upsetting. But of course let's tie it to the local community, yes? Make it some annoying long human interest story. However, unfortunately, they don't interview someone from the not huge, but large and steadily growing Chinese community (Milwaukee is actually fairly diverse), many of whom may know someone directly involved - have family, friends, whatever, in the affected area.

Oh, no.

Instead we watch several minutes of talking to rich white people who have adopted Chinese babies and/or work for a company that "has factories in China" about how this disaster is "affecting" them. (Basically them saying how they care about China due to their baby/factory and isn't it sad?)

Seriously WTF?

I actually wrote an email to the station because I was so annoyed.
