Hey there, livejournal. Didn't see you there. How've you been? Good? Angst-ridden? Excellent. I haven't posted in quite a while, and I know my devout readers have been hanging on with bated breath to hear what wisdoms I have acquired in my extended hiatus.
First: Do not confuse Cayenne Pepper and Paprika when adding a little flavour to your dinner.
Second: Do not read Forge of God by Greg Bear unless you really, really want to kill yourself. It's not bad, as such; it's a well-written book and it is, I'll admit, gripping. It is, however, intensely depressing. I am currently working my way through John Brunner's Shockwave Rider, to be followed by Stand on Zanzibar. I am told that I will need to follow these books with something light-hearted and playful lest I curl up into a ball under my doona and never come out again.
Third: That being a lefty pinko commie unionist can be quite the useful thing at times. Rumour has it that I and the other two trainees in the network maintenance section are going to have interviews with our overboss next week. It seems relatively likely that said boss will offer me and possibly them (since the other two finish three months after me) a boilerplate Australian Workplace Agreement. Since we all think that taking an AWA would be a terrible long-term idea - hell, even a terrible short-term idea - because there's no way we could get our productivity high enough in the first six months to a year, we have agreed that none of us will accept one. After all, if one of us took the contract then there would be so much more pressure on the other two, whereas if we stand firm then they are kind of rooted.
Fourth: That the transformers movie, despite its flaws, is awesome.
Fifth: That the following songs are cool and should be listened to by everyone.
Cut Copy - Heart on fire
Bumblebeez - Dr. Love (it's more the clip than the song, so check it on youtube.)
Grafton Primary - Relativity
Chromeo - Tenderoni
Sixth: That Sting and the Police have re-formed and will be playing a stadium gig(gity) in Perth.
That's all for now. Use this knowledge wisely.
