What a trip! I'll try to keep it brief:
-For the drive out to Pennsylvania we split the drive over 2 days. On our way, we stopped at
Luray Caverns in Luray, Virginia. Wow. I've visited numerous caverns and caves, but the stalactites and stalagmites formations never cease to amaze me. There was a beautiful lake in the cavern, only 6-8 inches in depth, which was so still that is cast a crystal clear reflection of the stalactites on the ceiling above it. It was a stunning sight! Unfortunately, I don't have any photos to share because I used my film camera (the batteries in my digital went dead) and I don't have currently access to a scanner.
We also made a stop
here after seeing a brochure for it at one of the welcome centers. Mac scoffed at going, but Katie and I insisted. Honestly, it was quite run down and very, very cheesy, but fun nonetheless. Katie and I had a great time taking each other's pictures next to all the dinosaurs, although she refused to go near the T-Rex statues. She knew they weren't real, but they freaked her out anyway.
-I had a great, great time with my friends. It's amazing how we can see so little of each other and yet pick up our conversations like no time has passed at all. The wedding reception was beautiful. It was outside, on top of a mountain with a gorgeous view (must get a scanner). They hired a 3-piece jazz/blues/dixie-land band and it was the perfect day for being outdoors (although a little cooler than I'd expected it to be-I actually had to go out and buy pants to wear because it was too cool to wear the skirt I brought).
-The drive home was loooooong! We drove all day Sunday and it took 12 hours! It sure was nice to be home, but I didn't have much time to relax. As soon as I put Katie to bed, I turned on the news to discover a series of very dangerous storms heading our direction. I love a nice thunderstorm, but tornadoes terrify me. I take them very seriously and knew that I'd never be able to sleep knowing those storms were on their way. So, I stayed up (and knit) while watching the weather coverage of the storms. At midnight, a tornado warning was declared for my county, so I woke Katie and we all piled into our tiny, 1st floor powder room. I never feel safe in there. I grew up with instructions to go the basement during a tornado, but very few homes here have them. Luckily, the worst of the storms missed us, and at 1 am we got the *all-clear* and went to bed.
I think the best thing about the long drive was that it gave me lots of time to knit. I finished the last Booga bag and my halter top. More on those at
knit_wits later, in addition to an unconventional LYS Field Trip report!
Have a great evening everyone and so much for being brief!
ETA: I almost forgot. *points to new icon* I coudn't resist. Thanks to
jiminyc for pointing me to this
portrait maker! It's a pretty good representation and a lot of fun to do!
