So, I've caught up on the new TV this week. Hooray!

(we don't have cable anymore, which means we either have to watch it on Hulu, which only sometimes works because our internet isn't so great as to allow for pain-free streaming all the time, or we have to find it elsewhere. Point is, we're a day behind everyone else, so yesterday we watched all of the Thursday shows!)

The good:

- Archer is fucking hilarious and while it only has one more episode until 2012, oh man do I love that show.

- Community! It actually managed to successfully address almost every single lingering problem I had with last season and makes me think that this season will be even better! And last season was pretty great, it was also just really ...constructed. Unlike, say ...

- Parks and Recreation, which still promises to be one of the best shows on television. Watching it makes me happy on almost every single level. I CANNOT recommend it enough, people. If you watch anything this fall, watch last season of Parks and Rec (it's out on DVD!) and then watch this season.

- Modern Family was never a show that I was ever SUPER enthusiastic about, but it's consistently good and the actors are great. And now Lily is talking, which gives Cam and Mitch more things to do and more ways to integrate them into the other storylines, which was an issue last season. Also, they now have (or will soon have) essentially every major stage of child development locked down in the form of one kid actor or another.

The bad:

- Glee. And it's not even that the premiere episode was SO terrible, but oh my fucking GOD have you guys heard what they've done to Blaine?

They gayed him up so badly that he's now basically a clone of Kurt, wardrobe-wise (short-sleeved button-up shirts and bowties? Really?), and worse thing of all, they retconned his age, so now he's apparently a year younger than Kurt. Which is triply hilarious because the character was originally supposed to be (and was originally portrayed as) an older mentor to Kurt.

I fucking hate Glee's fandom so much. Darren Criss is great but this is EXACTLY what I was hoping WOULDN'T happen to anyone Kurt ended up dating. Karofsky notwithstanding, it (as well as a scene where they visited a group of super-talented aspiring musical theater performers) kind of enforces the notion that Kurt is the quintessential kind of gay, and it's also SUPER FUCKING BORING. We've SEEN that kind of gay, before. Last season, it seemed like you were taking pains to differentiate Blaine from that. Now? OH LOOK, HE'S BACK AND MORE FABULOUS THAN EVER.

The thing that really pisses me off is that they're basically shitting all over the continuity and consistency of that character for money. The age-retcon in particular is just so they have an excuse to keep him around for another year and get his fanbase to buy merchandise. FUCK YOU RYAN MURPHY. IF I HAD YOUR NECK IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD CHOKE IT.
