Scramble for the Moon

Mar 04, 2007 02:44

Yay! Germany has now decided they want to go to the moon as well. They're going to be launching an orbital, followed by a robot that's going to be collecting samples on the surface. In case anyone was wondering, I've prepared a list of everyone who's heading to the moon now:

India
China
Germany
Sweden
European Space Agency
Japan, and the returning champions:
The United States
and Russia

Normally, I'd be estatic about all this, after all space exploration and colonization are the greatest undertakings our species has ever tried. That being said, we first went to the moon just about 40 FUCKING YEARS AGO! We should have half a dozen space stations, moon bases, and we should start working on a base on Mars with an expidition to Jupiter! And now we've lost the advantage of being there first. We're Spain. We got to the new world first, but we didn't exploit it the way everybody else is and we're gonna get screwed because of it. We're going to be left by the side of the road of histoy because we can't get our damned act together.
