Picking up the ashes

Yesterday was a tough day. In fact this past week was a really tough week.
I missed work on Monday due to intense pain in my right arm and back. I also took Skitterscat in to be put to sleep.
Tuesday and Wednesday I went to work, but had to leave by 2pm each day due to pain.
Thursday was completely painful and couldn't go into work.
Friday I went to the hospital for my MRI on my spine and on my way home picked up Skitterscats ashes.

Even with a week of being home without her, picking up her ashes was one of the hardest things I could do. I walked in with my sister Rain, and asked for her. Some other people were dropping off a small dog the size that skitter was. They were talking up a storm up until the point where I asked for the ashes. Then a quiet hush crept over the place and I got a ton of looks of sympathy. One asked...was she old? and I responded with 17 year, 1 month, 10 days. I was able to say it all without a tear. The woman looked about for a min and suddenly it hit me and I just lost it.
She came back in a cute little round tin. They spelt her name wrong. It was Skitter Scat on the card, rather than one word. It made me laugh.

I am so greatful right now that I have my little sister here with me while I am going through these things.
