Fic: Give Me Back My Bones (maybe then we'll talk)

Jul 13, 2013 08:48

IDEK. I just wanted to write a coffee shop NYC AU. And then I was writing and it was so ridiculous that I decided to just go for it - this has got to be the most over-the-top thing I’ve ever come up with. I mean, I pride myself on subtlety and finer points in my fic. That sound? It was the sound of me flushing all that down the toilet ( Read more... )

Is it possible that there is a chunk of story missing in this bit?

Derek doesn’t get any words out - he swallows around them, thick in his throat - before Stiles is saying, “Yeah, no, terrible idea, I don’t know why I said it, wasn’t thinking, sorry, GodHale,” and Allison covers her mouth with her free hand. “And everyone in it,” she says faintly. Her eyes are wet. Stiles looks sick, as though he’s holding back his gag reflex.

Or should I not be reading fic based on a show I've never seen? *g*

“Mmm, Magneto? A jerk, but Michael Fassbender’s hot.”

“I’m more of a Wolverine guy,” Derek finds himself admitting.

One of the best things I've read all year!

ugh, not only possible but definite. *facepalm* That is so embarrassing. It took me a few minutes to figure out what happened, but it was that I missed a "<" on one of the italics and so then it skipped all the text between that word and the next italicized word. Hah, one can only laugh. And fix it. Which I did. I think - now I'm paranoid. *g*

Yours was the first comment I read telling me - others pointed it out as well, thank goodness - so thank you very much. Posting fic is so stressful, like the actual posting part! I'm always afraid something like that's going to happen.

But - you liked! Why did you even read this?! I had no idea you read TW, but am delighted to find you do. I've seen less than half of the show episodes and I'm writing in the damn fandom, so no worries on your end.

I have read several TW stories -- my best friend from high school is a huge fan (vertigo66, maybe you know her -- we thought we invented K/S before discovering that people had been writing it for years before us). I know what Derek looks like. I have only a very vague idea of what Stiles looks like. I have some small sense of some of the supporting characters from other fic. Somehow this works out very well for reading fic despite never having seen a single episode. *g*

Anyway, I enjoyed this enormously! :)

I don't know her, but I know of her, mostly because you mention her a lot and I've been reading your LJ for 10 years! I'm giggling over your K/S comment - there are many ways to be brilliant and you guys were, even though others had also been brilliant before you!

Eh, TW is the sort of fandom where the show mostly just gets in the way. A lot like SGA, only even moreso. The less sense canon makes, the more fanfic, I think. There's a greater need, perhaps. *g*

We thought we were joking, mostly, because surely no one else would Go There. It took a couple of years before we discovered the zines under the table at conventions (are you old enough to remember when people hid them lest William Shatner should find out about them, not realizing that William Shatner thought it completely logical that Spock would be in love with Kirk since everyone was in love with Kirk?).

Hahaha re: the show getting in the way. I suppose I should watch a few episodes but I need someone to tell me which few!

Haha, I'm of no help in telling you what episodes to watch in TW!

I was never fannishly into Star Trek before the reboot came out. I mean, I watched TNG and DS9 and Voyager when they were airing, but I've still never seen more than two episodes of TOS. Heresy, I know! I've gathered you are Not A Fan of reboot. *g* But no, I think I'm too young anyway for that - that's a hoot about hiding the zines!

It's also very interesting commentary on the way fandom has changed. I look at the kids on tumblr now and the way they're open about fandom and so on. It's such a shift.
